Yeah, I saw that too. You couldn't pay me enough to get into a rig with two other drivers and sit on the bunk all day. CRE probably figured a way, but the third guy was authorized, so it's not the same situation. I think they still do it.

I was behind one today in Fontana sitting at a red light waiting to turn right. No traffic coming but he would not go until the light turned green

My 1st trucking job (Wingate Taylor Maid, anyone remember them?) I came home from orientation in my 1st truck, a 1982 Int'l cabover, this was in 1989. My lovely bride of 9 yrs wanted to go on the road with me, I said lets go! I wasnt even aware there was paperwork that needed to be filed,.We spent 6 wks in the truck, in & out of Canada a couple times, hauled a few hazmat loads without any passsenger authorizing paperework. I had no idea how much trouble I could have gotten into. I realized later that b/c of my inexpierence I could have hurt or killed us or some innocent motorist.
I put the trlr in a ditch in WV trying to get into McD's for lunch. I had to bypass the tunnels on the PA Turnpike (hazmat) & take that hairy, scary ride up US 30 on a foggy night.
After getting jerked around for 2 wks trying to get home I was so po'd I drove into a co terminal with her in the front seat, we didnt even care, we were done there anyway. Loaded all our stuff into the car & never looked back. Man it was strange driving a toyota after 6 wks in the trk. I felt like I was sitting on the ground.

I don't remember Wingate Taylor Maid, but I do remember Buck Owens. People used to walk around saying, "pfft! you was gone," shake their heads, and laugh.

This is a common myth. I'm on my smart phone and can't post the regulation, but unless your operating under your own authority you have to even if you own the truck follow the rules set by the authority holder. I actually saw an OO get in trouble because of this in the eastbound I-20 scales near Vicksburg Mississippi.

You need to be asking your company.Doesn't matter what we say your company has the final say so.I dont know what all you have to do to install a lap belt but if it's drilling holes in the cab it's unlikely your company will let you do that.
