Not necessarily so, the FMCSA proposed pilot program for transitioning military drivers between 18-21 years old also applies to reservists that have the military equivalent of a CDL. This is where the program will have the most benefit, allowing reservists to work in a transportation related vocation as their primary civilian job while also working in a transportation function while on active duty.
Also, the minimum commitment can be as short as two years, so if you enlist at 18 you could be out prior to 21 and ready to enter the civilian workforce.
