Less than 2 weeks driving and I'm already into it with the Safety Dept.

So you saying you work for a company that dont know who is driving what how do they pay you. If the video is time/date stamp and they cant figure out who was driving that truck at that time that would be strange.

What about the DVIR? If your in a day cab there should be a copy of it in there, still in the book, besides the one that the office has. Get the one from the truck you drove and the one that the "other guy drove" and show it to safety. Pretty simple. Then maybe go look for another job, but don't quit this one till you have one lined up.

    UPDATE --

I saw my DM this AM and gave him a written statement and copies of every record I still have access to for that day. He told me not to talk to Safety until he gets a handle on what happened and can straighten things out. I really appreciate being taken seriously enough to set time aside on a Saturday. We'll follow up on Monday.

Every company has to keep logs of who was in what vehicle (driver does too, whether it's paper or electronic or otherwise) and during what time frame. You could just request to see the timecards and route sheets for the day if it wasn't you. That would be evidence of who was in what truck at what time, which would prove exactly who ran over the landscaping.

    UPDATE #2

The situation is now resolved. The person who backed over the pole was already let go last week for a different incident. I don't know if wires got crossed between him being released and the vendor making the damage claim, but at least it's off my shoulders. I am definitely going to continue keeping my own record of each day in case this ever happens again.

Just one more thing to do. Get a letter (and personally keep a copy!) from the company absolving you from any involvement in this situation. Also make sure they keep a copy in your personnel file. Cover yourself, they've already shown you that they are quick to blame and irresponsible, wear a belt AND suspenders. Don't rely on a 3rd party app!!! Good luck
