Make sure that cotter pin is securely stuck in the valve handle PRIOR to rigging the pump.
I blew that cap about 25 feet tonight when the valve slammed shut under 650 gpm of pressure. Wasted 3 hours and got to do the 'drive of shame' back to base - quick fix, thankfully, so I was able to do my double-run.
As an aside: I'm glad I wasn't standing in front of it. Otherwise I might not be telling you this.... Or I'd be telling it to you from the ER.
Silver linings to an otherwise ####ty day.
Lesson!

There's something implied by your ellipsis.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I hauled bulk spring water, and at the well where we loaded, we'd pump in about 800 gpm. At the plant where I was unloading, I had to close the valve for a minute. Then, when I opened it back up, I forgot to put the cotter pin back in.
I got back to the well, hooked up the hose, and hit the start button. I was at about couple hundred gallons when, BANG...
The force of the water sucked the valve closed and #### near pulled the rod into the tank. It blew the cap right off the end of it.KillingTime Thanks this. -
