I finally got hold of recruiting. They only want to pay me $.32 per mile and they have NO E-Z PASS. That is a red flag to me. I can dodge a lot of tolls, but I can't dodge them all.
She said they did go out west, and solos would get out west once in a while, but who knows.

I need a job - I might have to take it. I'll just have to dodge the tolls as best I can. Dang.

About 9 (might be 7) cents is per diem if I remember correctly. Also, they'll reimburse your tolls on the next paycheck after they recieve your receipts. What you do is tell your DM to put a certain amount on your Comdata card for tolls for that particular trip if you know the approximate amount you'd need. You'll get a P.O. to put on your trip packet that corresponds to that trip. Then get the cash while you get fuel so you dont get charged for the transaction. The NE (including PA) and Chicago are about the only places you'll run tolls for them. There may be others, but those jump out at me right now. Either way, you gotta do what you gotta do to make ends meet. I tried to give you my unbiased ramblings, lol...but ultimately the decision rests on your shoulders. Good luck man.:biggrin_25525:

Well, after repeated denials of further application, I am going to have to go to Lester Coggins Transportation. Orientation is Monday. My blackberry has been turned off for 3 months due to a lack of funds, and free wi-fi is hard to find anymore, so I don't know if I'll be able to update frequently or not, but I will keep everyone on here updated whenever I can.

It is sufficient to say that after being denied by the other companies that I didn't ask the recruiter many questions about this job, because I need to keep my blood pressure down. It is the only chance I have at this point to keep my lights on at home (literally) and insurance on the car,and pay my property tax on my car, etc., so I have to take the job.

My expectations is that it will be just like starting over as a rookie, with a big company, something that I haven't had to do since my first 6 months of driving along time ago. Every fleet that I have been with, Landstar excepted, has been under 100 trucks. I know I will probably sit a lot, and getting truck issues fixed will be a nightmare, but I have to do something. I will let y'all know. Take it easy.

I like your attitude! There's that old, tired expression that "part of something is better than all of nothing" but it's absolutely true. I wish you nothing but the best. Keep focused on "what the future holds", not "what the present is". This advice may be coming from a wannabe but it's coming from a wannabe who's been around for 56 years. Keep in touch!
