I have had them try to talk me into taking my truck 120 miles down into Mexico and haul out green chile. They claimed it paid well, but we didn't get that far. lol

If a guy wants to he can follow the onion harvest for several months, out of Tx, NM, Az,Ca and oregon. I only hauled 2 loads out of oregon, one to homestead Fl, and the other to chitown, that was enough for me.

Not a reefer, but I hauled a load of forklifts in a dry van, as far as I am concerned they should have been on a flat or step. lol
We do load cars in reefers all the time.

    Good post-

Everything is correct EXCEPT the recipient responsible for freight charges is not always the consignee-
Especially in the last 15-20 years in the age of logistics shipping- A 3rd party buyer(wholesaler/buyer) who also is contractual to the shipping charges- Or a shipper designated FOB freight movements.

    Everything else is Spot On-

The industry outside the carriers duty as a whole...Doesn't want this particular knowledge "Available" to carriers...... Those in business though for any substantial amount of time know this.

You are correct but sometimes it’s difficult to know who the shipper responsible for payment is. Don’t worry, they will let you know quickly who is and then you can amend the filing. I’ve had to do that several times because the broker refused to disclose the actual customer. Produce loads are especially tricky when you have five different consignees on the load. Main thing is to get the lawsuit filed. Everyone ignores you until you get the court involved then suddenly everyone wants to be helpful and get the suit dismissed as quickly as possible.

Couple helpful ways to figure it out.

Look at BOL's- If its states FOB "Collect" its the Shipper billing consignee for charges.
If it states "Prepaid" Product as a whole has been Paid for by customer including Freight charges.
If there is a "middle " 3pl buyer involved- By Law- That must be recognized by Shipper to provide carrier with all necessary docs/BOL's upon pickup.

Forget about the Brokers- All they know how to do do is Use people-Lie to carriers and make things difficult when it comes down to "Harnessing" your monies due when they play games.

Worst thing that ever happened in the Free Markets- They'd Lie to their own family.

Ive hauled onions enough that after the 1st load I figured out how to do it properly and it was easy peasy. Top tarp, make sure the loader take an empty bin and pushes them in towards the center and get the straps just tight enough.

This I agree on. If the broker doesnt pay, that null and voids carrier/broker agreement. Then name all parties you can in suit.
