Ok, I am seriously considering getting into the trucking industry (I have been steadily researching it for the last 4 yrs. I have a question or two about company paid CDL training
Here are my options and what I keep hearing about them
1. CR England
A. I will hate it and basically wish someone would plow into the side of my vehicle and end my suffering
B. If I don't lease purchase, I will magically "pop" positive on a UA
2. Pam / USA (with Driver Solutions)
A. I will be an indentured servant
B. There is some magical huge fee that causes drivers to only get $10 paychecks
3. Schneider
No Longer has a school
4. Swift
I'm told I should sooner bathe myself in ground beef and go jump in the lion pit at the zoo (lots of bad stuff on them)
5. Central Ref.
I will be treated like scum and never get home (or miles)
6. Millis Transfer
The Holy Grail of "new guy" companies
(I can't work there because of where I live)
Some of these claims seem REALLY rediculous to me but then again...I have not worked in the industry. The list is much longer, I know but I would just be repeating most of the same stuff just about different companies.
Is there any good company to start off with the I will not ready to put my head under a moving tire because they trained me????
Let me get this strait...

Check out Conway Truckload. They use Central Tech in Okla, however it might be a reimbursement. It is a great school if you go there. Also Crowder College in Neosho MO has a fulltime school assoc with Conway.
You might check out your state assistance, some pay for trainning to go to the community college schools or other schools. Better not being tied to a company for a year or 2 that way
Best of luck to you!!!! -
ok first off remember that I would say at least 75% of the negative posts you see are people venting because of something that went wrong. Sometimes these folks did something that caused them to get fired.
Swift isn't bad for a starter....and who knows you might end up liking the place and staying there.
I don't know enough about Central to give you an opinion
England has a bad rep and has earned it due to their push on the lease
Just remember that no two people have the same experience at a company
It's up to you to make or break it. -
I had forgotten about Watkins Sheppard.....good post numbers

You listed 6 companies,
you missed a lot of them.
What part of the country are you in ??? -
I wouldn't be concerned about others disliking a certain company. Don't lump yourself in with everyone else. You are you, right ? You should have enough self-respect to take a challenge head on and be a success. Like climbing Mt. Everest, most people wouldn't dare to try it, but there are those crazy few who do and actually succeed. So, which are you ?

You have to remember one rule when reading these forums:
People who are unhappy will tell someone most of the time, people who are happy are less likely to say anything.
So, yes, you will read a lot of complaints about companies.....less praise. Take everything you read with a grain of salt, and remember that for every complaint, there is most likely a happy person who didn't say anything at all. -
Where do you live?
Is paying for school yourself a option?
