Not sure where you heard all that about Central Ref. I can tell you I get plenty of miles and I am not treated like scum..
I think you really need to re-think all your information. Much of it is from folks that have finally learned that this business isn't for everyone and they have had their fantasy bubble burst wide open to reality..
This business is what it is and what you make of it.. Only glamor I have seen was a really cool paint job on a log hauler that passed me today
Let me get this strait...

Again, I think you guys are right...the guys who are complaining are the few guys that had real issues; and the ones who are happy and running the miles don't usually take the time to post about it.
I feel like many companies may be getting a bad rap from a few; however, there apear to be those that deserve the flak they get and I really want to avoid those to have the BEST shot at making it in a tough business. I have no dilusions about how difficult this job is. My uncles told me that this was the hardest job they did since The Corps and they told me it will be for me as well.
CELTIC WOLF: thanks for the good input on CF, man. When ever I hear something good from one of you guys I'll definately put them on my list of consideration. I'll get in touch with them soon to see what they offer and if they might be interested in me...thanks again. -

You'll always find lots of negative reports about a company but not always so much positive reports about a company. Or you'll find a thread or two that starts out positive and then suddenly turns to negative. You always have to wonder, was it the company that caused this thread to turn sour or was it the result of the driver and something they did?
The day before orientation, when I'm being picked up from the bus station, if the van driver works for the company the first question I'll ask is "So, how's this company to work for?"
I've had van drivers tell me that the company I'm in orientation for isn't that great..that drivers have been sitting or days or weeks waiting on a load, or the trucks are always breaking down. It always sets off a little red flag in my mind.
Most recently I was in the same scenario. Asked the van driver about how the company is. He replied "..this is a good company. They take care of their drivers." Shocked and surprised (because this isn't the usual response I get), I thought to myself "hopefully he's right and this was a good decision."
But, you know, some people are just bitter. Some people have an axe to grind. Some times what you hear is correct but you're just not sure so you stick if out for awhile and then find out for yourself.
So do some research. Weigh your options. Read each company's website from top to bottom and find out their history and whatnot. Make a decision. If it goes sour, stick it out as long as you can. Don't jump ship the first time something goes wrong. Could be a fluke. Could be someone just dropped the ball this one time. When it finally gets to the point where you're not making any money, or you're spending more than what you're making and you've talked with as many higher ups as you can and can't seem to get anywhere, then by all means politely and respectfully leave your job.
This isn't an internship. You're here to make money. If you're not making money, why stick around? -
SEQUIOA: Thanks for the input. Do you have any suggestions on some companies that have treated you well?

Yes, you should avoid Swift. After all I've worked for them two years now and they treat myself and my husband wonderfully. We've gotten miles, on time pay, all detention paid, all reimbursements for scale tickets paid, paid vacation leave, a Fleet manager that cares about us, a DM that brings me soup when I'm ill, trip planners that route us special when family situations demand it, oh wait did I mention the fact that we're given leave for medical problems and they're paying our portion of our insurance till we get back? And then there's the fact that our fleet manager visited my husband in the hospital, calls almost every day to check if there's anything we need and to encourage us. Plus he's willing to run me part time when I come back so I won't be away from my husband more than a few hours a day. And it isn't just our fleet, headquarters has checked on us also due to the fact both of us are on medical leave.
Have there been a few problems? Yes as there is with any job. But over all we're treated very well.
So we work for a company that trained us, repaid my husband for what he paid for that schooling and training, never charged us for my schooling and training, gave us an opening into the industry and continues to support us in our career and life.
Yeah Swift stinks.......not.Hitman, Buckeye 'bedder, NoCoCraig and 3 others Thank this.
