As far as the main topic is concerned, there is no way of escaping tracking, unless you don't need to deal with brokers. Some of them have become very aggressive demanding it under financial threat. Especially, Coyote and XPO. I think, it is pretty much a standard these day to let them track you. Macropoint is a very common app but also these major brokers have their own apps that can track you; TQL, Coyote, CH Robinson, XPO, JB Hunt, UBER, Convoy have done for some time now.
They are all pushing for project44 and I am afraid this will be hard to avoid. This may not seem that bad from a strict technological sense. On the face of it, is it not easier for everybody to share your data with them on your whereabouts and HOS available? For instance, you go through a bad weather, bad road conditions and at the same time a TQL guy will see it "live" and won't accuse you of BS them, when you arrive late. There is still something in me that is resenting it though and I would not sign up for this resolution unless absolutely have to. I mean, this leads to face aiming cameras in owner operator's trucks, not to mention speed limiters and what not else.
Let them track your truck?

Just get a pre paid phone and keep it in the truck.
Write it off as a business expense.LoneRanger, olddog_newtricks, mpd240 and 2 others Thank this. -
I just use my tablet for all the tracking apps, I leave it in the truck all the time plugged into a charger with location on, don't like having that stuff running on my phone cause it kills the battery pretty quick and they don't need to know I'm at the booby bar on Saturday night ( neither does my old lady)
foggy, Svmuel, bryan21384 and 2 others Thank this. -
he got mad that i did not make my hourly call....well excuuuse me, you want me to drive or call..??
so they call my boss, and gave him hell for me not calling.
about (i'd say) 3 hours went by and i pulled into a rest area to make my call...i called my boss first.
he told me how mad the broker was.....
he asked me where i was, i told him "2 hours back"......he laughed, and i rolled on, never to ever call that broker again.
i made the appointment by like 1 full day earlier.....
we did more business with that broker. i never called him with hourly updates. -
