I just follow the rules and use common sense. I didn't know that made me a super trucker.

Can I ask what company put you in a safety supervisor position after just 4 years?
No slight intended but imho that minimal experience puts you on the experienced driver plateau.
I have 47 years of accident free professional tractor trailer operation, and hope to make 50, and I don't think I am qualified to post up in this forum as such.
Good luck though in searching for a safer culture within your firm.

Started out in a smaller company that grew to 200 units with 300 drivers and I switched over to a smaller hazmat carrier. Majority of safety staff does not have any OTR experience. So it was a big plus for me. I deal with more problems in a week than you encountered as a driver for 47 years. That is due to poor training practices, ignorant drivers, technology etc. The stories i can tell you will make the hair on your back stand up. I have the utmost respect for old school drivers. I have couple 30+ years of experience drivers and its night and day vs the rest of the fleet.

I thought all you needed to qualify at Landstar was a pulse and a worn out ex fleet truck with big spike lugnut covers

I see things out here on a daily basis that I'd never imagined even 20 years ago.
Once again good luck w the changes that need to be made to ensure successful operation of your company going forward. I've been hauling hazmat exclusively the past 11 years and we've had to reduce the criteria, (experience) to hire new drivers and it is a 50% proposition at best, on successfully retaining them.

How about, speeding and texting? Is that safe driving behavior?

Coffey and Lumper Humper Thank this.

Of course! And if you manage to crash and kill somebody while doing so, the courts will award you with a free room, 3 meals a day and a boyfriend...

    Coffey Thanks this.

You are absolutely correct. The reality is that the only way to ensure succesful operation comes down to willingness to let bad drivers go. Majority of companies do not, which is part of the problem. It's really hard to change the culture in a company where management does not support you. That is the reason I jumped ship to a smaller company and it's been great. We have drivers that are with us since 2005. Definitely makes for a better work environment where everybody is respected and both sides take more than average to the bank with less stress.

    nredfor88 Thanks this.
