Let's build the ultimate commercial driver resume. Post some lines from your current resume or resume template. Let's see how professional we can make it. Let's prove that driving a truck doesn't hold true to the stereotypes.

I just had a job interview recently. I wrote a professional cover letter and resume. I was interviewed for an exceptional company with great home time. Through the entire interview, the impression was that I was completely qualified for the job. We spoke for an hour and the HR lady told me to call back in three days to let them know if driving for them was something I would be interested in doing. She said, "I'm not going to tell you if you got the job yet but call us in a few days and think this over."

In the interview, the HR lady spent most of the time highlighting the excellent benefits and perks of working for the company. She discussed pay in-depth. She liked me.

While I'm not sure if I got the job yet, I can say that, had I not written a good cover letter and submitted a marketable resume, I'd have been just another guy looking for work with the company.

Hopefully everybody has something useful (and not personally revealing) to post in this. Let's build the ultimate professional driver resume, and help us stand out to prospective employers!

If you're doing any open deck work you could use "compliant, proficient and trained in load securement"

Since when do you need resume to drive a trk, lol.Companies treat us like complete imbisols.I spose for a hard to get hired company a resume would work. But for any of these major online carriers. They could care less about a resume.

I suspect that the OP isn't applying @ Swift, CRST or CRE and the potential employer looks harder at applicants than just the cursory pulse and fart check.

Don't be counting them chickens just yet amigo. I answered an ad for a major oil co driver some years back...and I brought my best and listed all accomplishments with a pro resume.

They rejected me for being over qualified for having some schooling behind me. Said they were looking for a "career driver" and felt i would bid out of the dept and cost them money. ( no sheet ) Thanks George, I appreciate the confidence.

I say hold your cards high and tell them what they want to hear.

I started sending cover letters and resumes before my discharge from the U.S. Army in 1967. I received courteous rejection letters from all of the larger carriers due to my lack of experience. The Missouri Truck and Bus Association mentioned me in their monthly news letter and I landed my first driving job with a manufacturer, as a result of my letter writing campaign.

Generally, resumes have more effect with private carriers and smaller companies. These companies may be looking for a driver who is promotable.

I just now looked through my scrap book. I have the usual awards and letters of commendation, but did not save a copy of my earlier cover letters. Perhaps, I did not believe them myself. There is no substitute for experience and the ability to perform on a road test.
