LG, loud pipes came from the PO. I am trying to quiet them down. I don't particularly like them but don't want to drop a grand or two replacing the whole system.

we ran a w900 style muffler on our 359. worked very well.
-
Ristow, are you talking about the U shaped muffler and pipe? How was that done?

i am,but the truck is gone so i cant show a pic. it worked great. it toned the 8v92tac to where it was hard to tell it was a 2 stroke in the cab. but really, its not hard to picture it. the muffler sits behind the cab under the frame, the outlet comes out and branches off into the uprights.

I ran a dynaflex 22" muffler on my 379. It mounts off two hanging brackets directly bend the passenger battery box. As delivered it had a solid block off plate in the middle and was dead quiet inside the truck. My pyrometer went through the roof so l bored a 3 1/2" hole in it. That dropped the pyrometer down and still kept the drone acceptable to me. It last 8 years or so before rusting apart. This time l went with a 12" resonator. It drops down to 4" inside with louvers and no center baffle plate. I'm hoping it'll last as long as the dulynaflex. We'll see tomorrow how loud it is under a load lol. This is with cheap flow-thru mufflers and 6" top stacks about 12 feet tall.

Oh, ours wasn't u shaped. It was just muffler shaped, but the in and our was on same end.

I solved your problem for less than $10
My W900 had a mismatch of exhaust parts (I think 1 stack was off a Western Star lol). After the Y-pipe it went into full length mufflers (I want to say Donaldson but I'm not 100% on that). 2 different ones anyways lol. Very little drone and a nice rumble to it. -
When I get home I can post vids from drivers seat of said Pete. Was very tolerable.
G13Tomcat Thanks this. -
A little different application but we used to like straight through shorties like a Donaldson M090595.
When I install band clamps on a bit of a curve I put the hardware on the side of the curve. Oil the inside of the flat clamp. That allows it to slip on the pipe while conforming to the curve. It also reduces the chance of old pipes crushing and clamps breaking. Position the clamp so a 1/2" impact can turn the bolts. Tighten them evenly untell bottomed. If you want to use a seal try folded up aluminum foil.
