Let's talk grease, what is the best one on the market and why?

It's easy, and cheap. Don't own the truck, but bought my own grease gun, used a permanent marker, and wrote my name on it, keep in in my tool box.

 

When driving in mud, the mud acts as the grease. So, no need to grease.

 

I just replenished today at the Chevron distributor.

 

Between me and dad, been using Hydrotex for close to 50 years. Its pink. No failures.

But on a fleet of wreckers I seen very good performance from TRC 880 Crown and Chassis. "Texas Refinery Corp".


Both are superior, but if anyone wants to cry about grease that don't wash out of hair or cloths, or truckparts, skin, pickup seats. Those greases are not for you.

 

I have applied for commercial accounts at Chevron, Esso, and Petro Canada. Will pick a grease from one of them, likely Chevron, and stick with it. Love my Dad, but it is annoying that he buys 5 different brands of grease per year. Years ago he gave me control over most of the business, except for grease, oil, and antifreeze.

Since you're from BC I'm gonna assume is going to get cold there. As others have said a lighter grease in the slack adj,s cams would be a good idea for the winter months. Because I'm lazy l would use it for the whole truck for the 4 months in the winter. Then use whatever you prefer for the rest of the year.

 

I have decided to go with Chevron Starplex NLGI 1 and 2, and have 2 grease guns.

 

Always ran EP2 in summer and an EP1 during the really cold months. Greasing often probably has more bearing on component wear vs sporadic greasing with an ultra-expensive grease. Used to climb under dad's truck every weekend plus hit the driveline and bunks again midweek. Nothing wore out. 5 years of beating down bushroads and still next to no wear in spring bushings or kingpins.

 

I grease weekly, in mud season, twice weekly.
