The other day I was thinking about the changes in the physical that the govment has made. Why don't we call on the elected and have them also make the same requirements for everyone. For example the regs now say we need to have BMI done, along with the check for sleep apenea, well why not everyone. Truckers are the only group who have been singled out for this, what about pilots, train engineers, ship crew, general public????
What about having regs say that to renew your license you have to get physical first, along with bmi and checking for systems of sleep apena. If failed then no license!!
We are the only group singled out when there is an accident. OH there was another truck wreck, must have been the driver!! You have heard this over and over through out the years!!
Let's make our voices heard in Washington!!!!
Lets try and make a change

We get the same crap in aviation, as well. The major difference, for us small plane pilots, is that we're only pushing a ton and a quarter, more than 90% of the time over unpopulated areas.

It's why you make the BIG BUCKS...

jon, I see you working here, but the way I see it we should not be trying to spread our pain around to the rest of society just cuz we truckers keep getting sheet on by our useless goverment. The effort should be concentrated on restoring rights and removing wastefull restrictions aimed at American truckers. However I do think each and every A Whole in Washington should be taking a urinalisis every single month. These are the real pricks who really deserve to recieve some pain and an all out assualt on their freedoms.

Can you point me to wear in the FMCSA regs it says that?
-
There is ZERO in the regs (or CSA 2010 for that matter) regarding BMI or sleep apnea.
One of the items under the CSA 2010 BASICS is "Driver Fitness" as it relates to crashes. Driver fatigue being a leading cause of accidents.
Under their logic - driver fatigue may be caused by sleep apnea and there is a link between obesity and sleep apnea, therefore carriers are encouraged to send people for sleep apnea testing and possible diagnosis based on BMI OR neck size, which may also be an indicator.
There is NOTHING in the regs anywhere regarding BMI or sleep apnea.
It's just F.U.D. (fear,uncertainty,doubt)

My opinion: I think that truck drivers are easy targets, especially when it comes to overnight changes in trucking safety regulations. For some strange reason, us truck drivers don't stick and fight together when it comes to arguing various safety regulations, or other drastic changes that affect our jobs and livelihoods.
I'm pretty sure that the airline and passenger/freight train industries have their own share of highly strict safety standards, but you will not hear about them in the news. Truckers are more seen in the general motoring public's eye based on the fact that we share the road with them, and are more involved in truck/passenger car accidents on many public roadway and highways. When was the last time that you've heard of a collision with an airplane and a car/truck? Train wrecks with cars/trucks occur from time to time, but are not as frequent as collisions between a car and a truck.
Thus, this is why we are easier targets in the public's eye, and are constantly in the cross-hairs with the Federal Safety Administration and the Department of Transportation (the big gub-ment). There are just more of us than them, and we completely suck at fighting many cases. I've only heard of OOIDA fighting various cases, and that's it. Why aren't there more organizations like OOIDA to stand up for us truck drivers?
Oh well. Have a great day. Drive safe. Avoid collisions with airplanes at all costs! -
*Looooong sigh*

I'm pretty sure he was talking about commercial pilots, who carry hundreds of passengers that could die in one instance. I know they have a stringent physical to take, but they don't have any hours of service. The airlines are asking now if the pilots can take a nap during flight.
-
Yes pilots flying commerical airlines do have time limits on them.
They have a flight book kinda like our log book.
Was sitting on a plane once in Chicago for an overseas flight.
Plane had issues. Sat for 4 hours and then they anounced crew timed out and we have to wait for a new crew.Spacer Thanks this.
