No down payment, his truck/trailer will be roughly $500 and he is paying upfront

He is looking for his own loads, checks will come to me and I will pay him deducting my % for using my MC

Thanks for the info. Did not know about driving record part

Cash for what? As far as I know, all I have to do is sign a contract with him, do pre-employment drug test and put him into my insurance.

Never thought of that when adding/removing drivers. Good point.

If you do this, your soon to be X-friend, will have to be paid by you. The broker will pay the carrier, that will be you, and you pay the independent contractors, that will be your X- friend.

Insurance companies are crazy... they really think a guy that takes 2 years off is a new driver again.. like he forgot everything he did the years back lol

Plates, permits, IFTA. Then you have e-logs to set up. As others have said, you will need to build a driver file, that includes doing a back ground/ previous employment history and a PSP report and MVR report. Plus the equipment will need to have a federal inspection, with copies in your files.

While you may not be a direct employer, you are now running a multi-truck operation, with that comes a lot more requirements.

After thinking about it, the fmcsa regs say all these things must be done within 30 days so what if the contract is cancelled at day 29? To get started you just need a pre employment, contract, insurance, registration, and a road test
