Probably anything built in the last 20 yrs, with an electronic engine will have some sort of shut down system that will idle the engine for a few minutes if the temps are too high, even if the key is removed. Generally, warm-up is 5 to 15 minutes, depending on time of year, cool down is 5 to 10 minutes in the afternoon, generally however long it takes me to finish my paperwork and log off.

I always keep up the idle for a few while I’m finishing up paperwork, then let it idle for about a minute then shut down. Like already mentioned above.
OLDSKOOLERnWV and Oxbow Thank this. -
I say that that was a "back in the day" thing... I had a timer in a O/O truck I drove for a bit. one day outside of Vegas I decided to take the garbage out of the truck. The passenger door was locked so dummy (me) just reached in twisted the timer on.. grabbed the keys and unlocked the passenger door.... ran back to the truck... hopped in and headed down the highway... a few minutes later... *CLICK.. dead silence... running down the interstate with a dead engine.... I looked in the ignition and realized that the keys were still in my pocket... after some gymnastics and a cussing fit.. got it all sorted and back under power... Im sure the company was wondering how I was at highway speed with zero RPMs and the ignition OFF....

My B come factory as a peec with cruise so no cable. I put a carburetor solenoid on it, flip the switch stem raises throttle on pump and wall ahh. Set the shut down timer and I’m out. Contaminated oil is the most common cause of turbo failure. Takes hardly any grit to get the center bearings. High spot levels, shavings, etc. when did turbo bark become cool or stomping one to the rug and rowing gears like a funny become the in thing? Idling all night in fair weather and leaving oil leaking No pouring out just so some ######## that don’t care can see you cow wagon lights half on half burned out?
ok I’ll leave it beOxbow Thanks this. -
The old school one looked like this.
The principle is the same. Turn the ignition Off lock the truck Walk away & at the preset Time the engine shuts down..Or Hit the Stop Button to override It.Oxbow Thanks this. -
Oxbow and OLDSKOOLERnWV Thank this.

Yes it sounded as though a clamp broke on the CAC allowing the boost to escape.
I was loaded and pulling a grade on 79 when it let go one night about 10:00.
Boost gauge showed 0 and it was weak as a kitten.
Lost a clamp few months prior so in my mind it had happened again.
Finally found room to get off the road and get the hood up, while looking with a light trying to find the broken clamp or split boot, the engine took off to the moon while I was on the passenger side.
I ran around and turned the key off but it never stopped, it was on a moonshot….
