I was wondering how long it takes to be able to get off flex board and bid on a regular? I also wanted to know if they provide health insurance while on the board and may not be working full time hours? Thanks

Best bet is to ask a driver there how long theyve been on the flexboard. Hard to say. At my old barn, the number one flex guy was there 2 yrs, and another guy I know of was on the flex board calling in for 6 yrs! Yup you heard that right.

Health insurance is available after 90 days, it is expensive and doesnt cover squat. After 90 days whether you work 20 or 40 hrs you are considered a full time employee unless you specifically hired as a part time dock worker

He's pretty much on. I'm single but my insurance has always done what I need it to do and It's not that much for me. I have heard a lot of drivers say It's overly expensive for dependants.

There's no way to know how long you'll be on the flex but at some places It's better than getting forced into a lousy start time/work assignment you don't want. I had a start time after 1.5 years but I did better on the night flex. Back then, you couldn't bid flex but I would have if I could have. I ended up back on the flex board after almost five years before my initial terminal was closed so don't count on any bid you have.

Just my opinion, but I think you generally need 5 or six years till you get a decent start time or can hold a nice night line-haul run. Once you do that turnover is probably less than 5% and most of that is people getting fired for stupid stuff.

It's tough staring out but It's a real good job once you hit top scale and have some decent bid choices.

I knew of 2 guys with 10 yrs on night linehaul who got bumped back to flex because 3 guys from days bid nights. Their terminal didnt have any turnover, so most of the positions were solid till someone retired.
