I spoke with other hometime drivers while I was picking up a relay load at Sharonville today. I'm going to request the 7-3/4 hometime out of Sharonville (I was told it's available when I was in Gary) I'd like to stay out longer but it just doesn't seem to work mileage wise. The 3 different drivers I spoke with today, said they rarely put in less than 2000 a week (and that seems to be consistent mileage no matter which hometime driver you talk to). I noticed last couple of weeks when I was waiting for a load and others drivers were waiting also, no matter who was waiting longer, the hometime driver seemed to get loads first. Just my observation.

You know I drive 70 miles round trip M-F and back when I had applied at Roehl I used to see them frequently. Them and USA Truck. I just don't see them out that much anymore. I was seeing Roehl flats running near my house once a day. None in quite a while.

I put a curse on them for passing on my app!

grc56, I left the hometime fleet last March after a couple of terrible months of low miles. While miles on the national fleet vary I have never had the 1500 per 7 days I had on a regular basis on the Hometime fleet (my poorest was 1040 for 7 days). When freight is slow as it usually is in the first quarter, the Hometime fleet takes a beating in my opinion. Be carefull before you make the switch.

Hey, GRC, I'm a Knoxvillian too. I'm starting training in January and my concern is the pre-screening heart rate thing. I'm 49 and a smoker and I was wondering if you wouldn't mind filling me in on how rigorous the screening is and what the most strenuous part of it is. You know, sort of what to be expecting.
    Thanks!

Smoker or not I would start doing some push ups, It is amazing what results you can get in a short time just doing 5 of them at a time. Just do it a couple of times a day. I have a 21 lb dumbell that I play with. I keep decent tone on my arms with it. Do some fast walking, jumping jacks etc.

Get the heart rate up! I think they say 20 minutes a day?

Thanks guys. I'm not so worried about the strength part as much as the heart rate thing. Being my age, I don't have as much wiggle room as the young bucks. I've been riding a stationary bike and immediately checking my pulse right after, and MAN am I cutting it close.
I'm doing a hard 10 minute ride, so I was wondering if the screening would be as rigorous as what I'm doing.

Don't have my cdl yet. Going in the morning to the dmv to get my permit.
Really looking forward to driving and don't want to blow it.

Hi Cinknick, I'm in the same situation as you. I'm 48 and not in bad shape. So, at our age what is the maximum rate per minute during the screening? I've been walking 3 miles a day. Yesterday I checked my heart rate and it was 76 per minute. Looks like I'm going to the January 18th class in Marshfield Wisconsin.

Hi Tim, The formula is 220 minus your age (48) times .9.
    So, 220-48 =172 X .9= 154.8.
So, your heart rate cannot exceed 154 (155) at anytime during the testing.
If you're walking 3 miles/day, I'd say you have little to worry about.
I'm just trying to figure out what they have you do that's so strenous that your heart rate can reach those levels...
Good luck! I'll be there starting the 4th.

    kingfisher Thanks this.

    That should've been forty-eight times .9.
If I want a smiley face I'll type it in! :)
