I'm on my way to north dakota! The adventure begins a few days late because my ex dragged me back to court Friday... but im on my way! Stopped in Utah for the night. How's the weather in ND? These new snow tires feel funny on my car... kinda "mushy"? Maybe because they are so soft an d I've never had snow tires before?

Yeah, they feel soft when it's warm, but once it's cool they'll firm up and feel normal.

I drove through Black Hills National Forest on way to Williston today! OMG! What a beautiful area! I grew up around Yosemite, which is incredible too. But, I've never seen so many different rock layers in one mountain range before! Every turn was like driving into a different postcard picture!

I got (lightly) snowed on at the top of the mountain. My first experience driving a four-wheeler in the snow (I've driven 18-wheelers in snow, not cars)! My car seemed to handle well, but I was going pretty slow. I was captivated by the scenery! I envied the hunters (?) who were traipsing around the trail heads! Black Hills must be amazing country to hike!

The North Dakota adventure begins tomorrow! I still have the pre-hire offer, but am checking out a couple of jobs on my way to report to the job. I'm wondering if I shouldn't start with water or sand, rather than jump right into hauling crude? I'm afraid of getting in over-my-head, and then feeling inadequate stealing my momentum!

I have a silly question... when I pulled bottom-dumps in California, we pulled double bottom-dump trailers. All the bottom-dumps I've seen around here (I'm in Spearfish, SD) are single, long bottom-dump trailers? Is there a reason CA uses doubles, and here they use the single trailer?

Ok then, 25 miles will put you most likely in one of the camps just east of Williston on US 2, some of those are the newer and much better set up camps. With Verizon you should be in pretty good shape, they are the major provider for that area. Sounds like you have a good plan for this so I imagine your going to do just fine :)

If you want to haul oil, and can get into it right away, I would. It will make you more marketable later. We had a guy start in water and could not go to oil because the water side had to let you go and they said they were to short handed. If you are patient and detail oriented, you will be fine in oil.

I just keep reading and reading about the people coming to North Dakota. When I came here Watford City was an old west saloon town. Now it takes nearly 2 hours to get through the little town. I suspect tho people to leave when winter hits. Goes to show you how there really is NO WORK in the US
