Hey SS, Here's a pic of my typical winter get up. This is after about an hour an a half out in -15 or so. It reminded me that they make insulated jackets with oversized hoods that will go over a hard hat, something to check on.

    Hammer166!

You look "shiver-me-timbers" cold! You have icicles in your hair! I ordered something much like you are wearing, a Carhartt Helmet Liner (Fleec 2in1 gear):
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0029ZC7AA/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This weekend I'm taking a trip to Bas Pro Shop to try on some base clothing and buy this trooper hood for non-work times:
    http://www.basspro.com/RedHead-Melton-Wool-Trooper-Hat-for-Men/product/10230418/

I looked at a Carhartt FR jacket with hood, but it was way too expensive for me!

Carhartt Midweight Active Flame Resistance Jacket: $190-$250.00
    http://www.amazon.com/Carhartt-Resi...584&sr=1-3&keywords=carhartt+midweight+active

I found this hooded, FR jacket instead,,, Rasco Flame Retardent Insulated Hooded Jacket: $90.00
    http://www.amazon.com/Rasco-Retarda...olid=2OBUYTZHAQ6XT&coliid=I6DRRA1UUDYD7&psc=1

I ordered two types of glove liners, the ones you recommended and another glove that stretches to conform to your fingers.
The ones you recommended haven't arrived yet. $23.19
    http://www.amazon.com/MCR-Safety-9620-Thermostat-10-Gauge/dp/B004HMHFAU

The others i ordered because they sounded interesting and were inexpensive. I thought I'd give them a shot. Well, they have arrived and have a really amazing fit! They look like kid gloves when you open them, but they "stretch" over your hands. The fit can be described as like that of a doctor glove, but made of cotton and warm. The price is $3.12 a pair. I ordered 2 pairs. The shipping cost me $3.59. Next time I will order 6 pairs or more at once to make the shipping worth it.

I received my canvas military "parachute" bag, If anybody needs a huge, extra heavy, extra durable bag to carry tire chains, heavy tools, tire chaulks, or whatever... this is the bag for you! I can't believe the strength and quality of this bag. Dimensions are 24x15x13. It has a heavy zipper enclosure, with a canvas flap that snaps over it to keep rain from leaking through the zipper. I believe it capable of carrying 150-200 pounds or more without stretching or ripping. Cost $21.99, with free shipping!

I wanted a quality folding shovel and case, not a cheap knock-off that broke the first time you used it. I found a US Military Issue e-tool trenching shovel. It was $24.00 when I bought it.
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004SOPJG4/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And I bought a cover for the shovel. I bought on used because I knew it had the belt loops on it. I could tell whether the knockoff cases had belt loops as an option. I paid $7.99.

I already have a laptop table, but I though someone who is stuck sitting on a bunk to work on their computer might be interested. It's got a fan built in, 4 USB ports plus a small LED light that is really bright! There are two height settings on the legs, and it's made out of a hard, but rubbery plastic material. It won't break if you drop on a corner because its not brittle. And, the two "TOPS" on the desk lift up and reveal storage spaces for office supplies. $30.46
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004005WWW/ref=oh_details_o07_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Finally, I got this laundry bag. It is absolutely enormous (almost put a small person inside), but made out of nylon and very lightweight! $6.80
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0027OVX1M/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got my car fixed yesterday. They replaced the brakes, flushed the radiator and cooling system, changed all the fluids, and installed new wiper bladed. They also load tested the battery and believe it should be okay. The battery is 8 months old, quality, and was purchased from the dealer. They tighten all the belts, too. The car is in good shape and should have no problem going to ND.

I'm still waiting for two gear bags I ordered:
    Fireman's jumbo Gear Bag:
    http://www.thefirestore.com/store/p...846/TheFireStore-Jumbo-FireFighter-Gear-Bag-/

    511 Patrol Bag
    http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000AL9CUI/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This week I have to figure out my base clothing and carhartt bib overalls. Thank God, one of my brothers has a brand new pair of Carhartt insulated, FR, duck bib overalls I can have. He's never worn them. I friend bought them for him to go on a hunting trip a few years ago, but the weather didn't turn cold while they were there. He's had reason to put them on!

    Cardiac Clutch!
Thanks for info on housing! I'm not exactly sure what are the housing is in? Recruiter said I woould be working in Stanley, and that the housing was apprx 25 mmiles away? I'm not stressing over it too much, yet. I have applications in at some other companies. The hope is that if one company has housing that is crap, I will already have several other companies to choose from. That's the plan, anyways! I'll have to see what happens!

I think one of the companies I just sent applications to was Stallion Oil Field Service. If I'm not mistaken, they move company housing around like you do! I've got all kinds of applications submitted for everything from hauling crude oil to fracking water. I applied for a winch truck and a hot oil truck. I applied for a job hauling fuel out the frac sites. The only jobs I avoided were flatbedding. Tarping and tieing can be difficult for me because I don't have the upper body strength men do, and I'm scared I'll slip on the ice and fall off the trailer!

I have Verizon cell coverage and a verizon hot spot connection that I carry with me when I doubt the phone will have reception. Usually, I can get some coverage on the hot spot even when the phone doesn't work!.

[FONT=Arial, Tahoma, Calibri, Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif]I can PM you the name of my recruiter. I also have a list of companies/websites but its rough! Your best bet is to log onto NDWorkforce Connection, set up an account, and conduct job searches on their site. The site is kind of a pain in arse to use at first, but once you get your account established and a resume posted, the trouble is worth a million pounds in gold! Seems all the good jobs advertise there, as well as companies who are willing to train. The occupational data and information is excellent! It really helps you pin down the wages you think you are worth for the potential employer, and in comparison to the local market. There's a help/video link at bottom of page that has tutorials to guide you through the resume process, and then how to search for open positions. You can apply directly for most jobs from the site, so you don't have to send stuff separately. Check it out, and let me know if it works for you. And, don't forget to check your inbox regularly. NDWFC sends messages to you on the board, as do employers.

I was in Williston Wednesday and Thursday , ran back through Stanley, Ray, Minot, etc.... I had perfect coverage all the way through. I stayed the night at a job site about 10 miles north of Williston and had excellent 4g coverage.

There is some nice looking housing complexes all along hwy.2. Much improved from when I started going up there a couple years ago.

If they are anything like the gas field camps here you will get a room with your own shower toilet one bed a desk, mess hall to have meals at, and a games room maybe. They seem ok but not many girls and the ones that are there do cop they fair share of attention.

They chain in the California mountains, too. The closest thing to mountains is Killdeer to New Town, most of the rest is pretty flat. I asked an Indian-looking guy in the convenience store. He never chains his tires, but he does use snow tires. So, evidently some up here put up with that hassle, I don't know anyone in Michigan who does. But, it's more severe, here.

We have to chain for the mud in the rainy season.
