Let's see how the industry would react to this advancement. Here is a conversation between the Chief Financial officer and Head of Maintenance:

CFO: So you have a device that will save us about $5000 in fines every year. Tell me about it
HOM: It is a new device that will tell our drivers, assuming they are smart enough to download the app and use it, when a light is out
CFO: Can't they just do a pre trip, walk around the truck and see that the light is out?
    HOM: Well, yeah.
CFO: What would it cost for this new system?
HOM: Well we have 1450 trailers in the fleet, each with 11 clearance lights. Cost per light would be $37 per instead of the current $4.00
The total to replace the entire fleet would be $590,150. Plus training all 500 drivers on the use would be another $37,500 or so.
CFO: Clearly you don't have any real idea how this business works do you? I will not authorize such folly. Go back to your greasy office...

Replace your lights with good quality led lights, check them regular and often.
