You mention stock radios I currently have a Cobra 29NW LTD Classic hooked up and it is basically stock ( modulation adjusted to 100% with vr4 ) with a Hustler Q27 antenna on Volvo stock mount and I have no problem averaging 10 miles, matter fact the other day I was at Loves ( I75 mm 451 in Florida) and I talked to another driver as he was getting onto I 10 mm 435, so dont make general statements like bone stock radios have low audio and signal strength, you are not the only one on this forum with years of experience, I appreciate everyones input here but sometimes arrogance gets in the way of ones knowledge.

Might want to check yourself, if you recall I'm the one being accused of being a clueless truck driver. I'm not making general statements. I'm making statements I know to be true. You're radio is not "stock" since you have adjusted the modulation. You are also not running a stock antenna system.
My comments were based on my experience talking with drivers with STOCK equipment. In my original post in this thread I mentioned that low power radio's can and will talk long distances under the right conditions.bored silly and wolverine11 Thank this. -
What is your definition of a higher power radio ? 40 watts pep, 100 watts pep or more, a 40 watt dual final radio is not going to walk all over a 20 watt( pep) Cobra 29.
-
No it won't, but a 60-80 watt PEP radio in close proximity will definitely walk all over a stock cobra or uniden radio, especially with a proper antenna system vs a stock truck antenna system.wolverine11 Thanks this.

I dont believe I called you clueless I appreciate your input and expertise and turning midulation up to 100% , which is recommended by Cobra service manual , does not in any way modify or hackup a stock radio, it is still stock, radios that are no longer stock have had limiters removed, coils spread, final upgrades, etc.
-
if you understood anything about performance you would realize that low frequency response was deliberately eliminated.
-
I agree the higher watt radio will be heard when both are next to each other, but the cobra 29 will come close to transmit distance, as the higher power radio.
-
I never said it hacks up a stock radio, but it does in fact "modify" it from the original state that it was taken out of the box. 75-80% modulation vs 100% modulation can be a big difference especially on a noisy channel.
-
I do, as higher frequencies travel farther, and are audible over lower frequencies. However I find them less pleasing to my ears. And the slight benefits don't outweigh the negatives for me personally.rabbiporkchop Thanks this.
-
It is still stock, modulation is set at 85% at factory to avoid rejection by fcc at inspection, the Cobra service manual recomends 100 % modulation that is why vr4 is on the board,Dirtymartini15x Thanks this.
