I do ltl for Central ,out at around 10:30 - 11 am from ABQ down to Lubbock ( roughly 5.25 hours drive) D/ H an do a 30 , head back, again roughly 5.25 hrs. M-F. Take home pay is roughly 830 per week. Not the best pay for all the hrs ( 60 all told ) but home for 12 and wkend off. Better than some and cheaper than others, but nothing really hard and its not seasonal or otr . I agree about the money though, if if your pocketing 48 or more after taxs your doing ok.

Then...no more PIE tankers. I could never bring myself to get comfortable with a job after that. -
[QUOTE="Northeasterner, post: 7116826, member: 214354 UPS contract is up on the net, but it has a linehaul driver addendum that seems to suggest pay tops out at 43cpm, so what would be the point?
You weren’t looking in the right place if you think a UPS driver is making 43cpm. It does take 5 years to top out now but it is 80cpm.asphaltreptile311 Thanks this. -
There's a lot of misconception about what happened to IBC/Hostess Brands. A lot of people assumed that it was because of the Union that caused everybody to lose they're jobs, but it's far from the truth. The Union actually helped keep IBC alive for many years when we were in bankruptcy. We gave up raises and a percentage of our pay for kickbacks so that the company cound improve on operations and equipment. But the CEO's and management never used our kickbacks to improve anything and stuffed all our money into there pockets. That...and the whole low carb fad that was popular back then...which was what put us into bankruptcy in the first place for almost 10 years. Then the inevitable strike happened, and that was that.
Even to this day, when I walk through the Supermarkets and see all the products that I use to deliver, from Wonder Bread, Twinkies, Hostess Cup Cakes, Drake's Cakes, Funny Bones, Swiss Rolls, Devil Dogs, etc., etc., etc., it brings a smile to my face knowing that all of our products still exist to this day. They're all branched out and owned by various different companies now...but yeah, those were good times and I have no regrets whatsoever that I ever worked for themskinnytrucker, Gearjammin' Penguin and Cardfan89 Thank this. -
...Until the day you hear “oh, I’m sorry. We just decided 10 minutes to do a PM on yours, so you’ll have to take that rag over there with half the horsepower”. -
This is where I found that information, it's in the LHD line haul driver addendum
pages 109-112. Please correct me if I'm somehow misinterpreting it.
If you're working at UPS maybe you could tell me, are they taking on new line haul drivers in southern New Hampshire? Is there a lot of sitting on the extra board? How is it over there? What's the starting pay? -

I was doing regional OTR for Eastern for my first 8 months solo and making eight or nine hundred a week... last week I did linehaul for the first time and made 1100, but I don't know if that will hold.
Last night I got 150 miles while the seniority got plenty more....
Also while I'm not pro or anti union, I do have a beef with being used as a strikebreaker and way to openly undercut the Union at the sister company. I understand the owner wants to save money, but all it's doing in my eyes is showing me that I can get paid better elsewhere and not necessarily have to pull trailers that are "maintained" by mechanics from the former Soviet Union.
It's been a learning experience for sure, and now I'm putting out The Feelers to see where I can go and take my skills too. -
As far as pension vs 401k, given that I'm 30 years or so from retirement I'll take the 401k. With all the cuts to pension contributions and benefits there is no guarantee there will even be a pension fund in 30 years..No way in hell I'd depend on a pension in this day and age for my retirement. Guys retiring right now may be the last generation to get a good pension payout.Lav-25 Thanks this.
