both, as i recall.
once they gave me a twin screw, 40,000 + was the norm.
but what is needed to be remembered, is that out of my terminal alone, we had 15 line haul drivers, and back then, we all returned the same day, no layovers. so freight was dispersed as evenly as possible per truck, OR some of us went to other terminals, THEN returned to our home terminal.

we had very old pups, they must have weighed more than the Empire state building, empty! i left long before any new ones got put into service.
now, the 48' double trailers, i never pulled those, those took a NYS permit, which i NEVER wanted to get involved with.road_runner, MACK E-6 and Bob Dobalina Thank this. -
Just guessing. I'm glad to have no clue about pups. Our trucks are only permitted for 74k# gross and we only pull long boxes, but you can still get 42k# loaded in them and be legal. I was thinking a set of pups would be comparable, but there'd definitely be more weight in an empty set than an empty 48- or 53-footer.
Now I'm curious about the weight of an empty set vs. an empty long box. Anybody know? I'm such a nerd. Also, are most companies that pull doubles permitted for 80k#? -

Last I checked a set with a twin screw weighed around 37k or so empty. A single screw will give you at least 2 or 3k more, but one has to load like he has some sense and not do things like stack chemical totes in the nose.buddyd157 Thanks this. -
