Work 14 hours a day Sunday through Thursday . That's 70 hours in 5 days . Be off 34 hours Thursday to Saturday . You could run 14 hours Saturday and have 84 hours in 7 days .

Under the old rule you could start a fresh 70 anytime after after a 34 hr break. Thus, one could actually drive more than 70 hrs in 8 days. Not anymore with the implementation of the two consecutive periods of 1 to 5 am and the restart limited to once per 168 hrs (7 days). I figure it's going to cost me at least 800 miles per month with the way I normally run.

800 miles at 12 mos X .40 starts to equal some serious cash.

So at my company they are famous for having us do rolling restarts and I read the new rules but did not see anything pertaining to that. Maybe I read them wrong but hoping someone understands this new hours of service better then I do. In the past the only way I got a reset was to call safety and tell them I was too tired to keep on driving on recap hours and only managed to get 3 restarts where I actually had 34 hrs off last year.. So can someone please explain????? thanks

There's nothing that precludes a driver from running on recap, even under the new provision. The FMCSA is not mandating a 34 hr restart. They are restricting a 34 hr restart (if you take one) to once every 168 hrs and it must include two consecutive periods of 1 AM to 5 AM.
