Probably 1/4 of all my loads are hazardous totes. 3 out of last 4 in fact. Most of the chemical places have a little orientation you have to attend the first time you go there, and they check all your credentials, then give you their own card for entry.
One place you sign the BOL's with a picture of your face lol. No BS. It's facial recognition for entry. That's one of the heavier duty places.
But all those places tell me guys constantly show up without a hazmat and, or tanker endorsement. And it really pisses them off.

Unknown. Even in modern day trucking though, one clown gets another to try and pick up a load that both know the driver cannot haul.
    How about insurance?

But it is by far the easiest endorsement to get.

Back in 2015 Builders got a contact to haul road paint for Sherwin Williams out of Baltimore and Memphis, at first they didn't worry about having the endorsement then 2 of their drivers got level 1'd in ohio and they got hammered for it.

Now they reimburse the drivers whip get the endorsement

So I think I know where the confusion is. The definition states that the tanks are permanently or temporarily attached to the vehicle. It depends on your definition of attached. If they're held in by load bars or logistics straps are they attached?

    Yes.

Is a load of potatoes floor loaded in a reefer attached to the trailer? Yes.

Just because it's not bolted or fastened to the actual trailer does not mean it's not attached.

"Attached" or not is not the issue. The issue is having an aggregate liquid in excess of 1,000 gallons as a payload. Doesn't make any difference what it's in. [with the new amended rules]

Mmmmmm, not so sure. The one place I go, if there is even 1 tote, you have to have a tanker endorsement or they won't load you.

Can you provide a source of the definition that says this? Sure it's been enforced as totes in a van, but the point of the rules was to stop tankers from compartmentalizing their tankers so much as they're no longer defined by the old rules.

This explains the new rules as well as any and supporting documentation can be found elsewhere. I suspect some places just require tank endorsement PERIOD. No matter they take one or 20 totes
