Blasting Agent is usually ANFO.

 

It's been a couple of years since we hauled that stuff but it was always pre mixed before we'd load.
I guess it could be mixed on site too but I'm not familiar with that. I know that some of the specially designed trucks that load the holes in the mines could mix ANFO
The diesel/AN mixture has to be precise and the mix has to be consistant throughout. It's usually mixed in a plant and then loaded.
We also hauled bagged ANFO.

 

Actually you could. It wouldn't be very effective unless you mixed up a bunch of it. When Timothy McVeigh blew up the Murrah Building he used about 7000 lbs of homebrew ANFO. That much ANFO, professionally prepared, would have resulted in ten times as much damage.
The AN prill for making ANFO is different than the regular AN fertilizer prill. The prill for ANFO is multi faceted and harder. It's also more pure and is manufactured for consistancy.

Caveat..I don't mean to sound like an explosives expert. I'm not. Everything I learned about the stuff came from hauling it on a regular basis for a local explosives company. We don't haul it any more. The explosives company bought their own trucks.
