After searching on here for several months I find myself asking the same questions over and over about each company.

Does anyone have or know of a list of companies with the Pros and Cons and regular info without having to go to each site and asking the same questions over and over.

Maybe someone has done a good search and can share info on here if they have it all together.

I have notes written in a few notebooks but not real organized. :biggrin_25513:

I am going to be living in Indiana so if anyone has any good info and wants to share why or why not I should go with a company that would be great.

    Not interested in Flatbed

    Thanks

I personally am NOT a truck driver. IF I were a truck driver with a class CDL "A" license, I would try to get a job with Tyson Foods out of Springdale Arkansas, 1-800-933-6442.

They have a reputation of having some of the best pay and benefits that a truck driver could possibly have. They also have a reputation of being treated with some of the best respect that a truck driver can receive.

From what I have seen on their website, TTR, and other publications, their truck drivers average out from $56,000 to $60,000 a year. Naturally, there will be drivers who earn much less. There have been cases in some of their truck drivers earn $70,000 a year, or close to it.

Also, from these same sources, their miles average out to 2600 miles a week. Some of their truck drivers drive in excess of 3000 plus miles a week. They drive to all 48 states. Tyson Foods hauls beef, chicken, pork, lamb, mutton, and various frozen foods.

Tyson Foods does have a reputation for having very "time sensitive" loads, along with a LOT of night driving.

What companies are you looking at? With so many companies in the industry, it's kind of hard to give good/bad.

Everything I have read about Tyson seems good. Do they hire new CDL graduates or pay for training ? Seems like their website did not have much information.

I thought about that after I posted , but I really don't have a set list just companies that hire in the Indiana area so that should narrow it down to about 5000 companies. :biggrin_25517: I know a lot of companies hire from Indiana but a few don't. So I guess the major carriers like:

    Schneider
    Crete
    Prime
    Superior Carriers
    Millis
    Tyson
    Carter Express
    TransAm

Just a few I have been looking at.
Being new to trucking I think an APU and a large inverter would be something I would really want especially OTR.
But maybe its not that important but living in the truck for several days at a time I think it would be nice.

I believe that Tyson Foods has a list of select schools that they take CDL graduate students from. You may want to give them a call at 1-800-933-6442.

If you cannot get onto Tyson Foods right away, perhaps you can gain 1 to 2 years experience at another company, (preferably with reefers), and then apply for a more permanent position as an OTR truck driver for Tyson Foods.

    Good luck to you!

Theres no list because most of us here are truckdrivers and by nature we can not agree which shoe to tie first, or maybe they should be slip ons....

Heres the deal, the first year by enlarge sucks for multiple reasons not just bad or good companies, but also there is a considerable amunt of adjustments a driver has to go thru.

Get it over then, then decide. IWX has a terminal in Edinburg In. they however do not take students. Great Co overall, probably one of the best maintenace programs very driver orientated. From where you are you could run 48, east coast, shuttles to Springfield.

There is just to many companies to list good and bad, during your first year you will have the chance to learn this first hand, thats when you decide.

As for Millis, they want you to go through their school, I had thought about them, and was looking to do that but wanted the best training I could get and then determine who I wanted to work for. I am not saying their school isn't good, because I have no idea, but you have to pay for some of it as well.

Wanted to also ask if you are wanting to do tankers, make sure you go with Schneider Bulk division, instead of the regular division, as that is what I was told. I am not saying yeah or nay to any Schneider division, just wanted you to realize they are apparently different divisions. Chinatown and several others gave me some suggestions as well, Quality Carriers and Trimac also as those are tankers as well I believe. I have heard some good things on Crete, from drivers and some others as well. Heard mainly good, but some bad on Prime. Since you have been following my other threads... sorry to hear you don't want to try flatbedding... I passed state exam today, going with TMC!

Congrats on passing the exam Gwiz , I like the trucks TMC has and when I first started thinking about driving I thought I wanted to do flatbed and work for TMC but I am 60 now and really hate working out in the weather when it is bad and I think it might be a little to physical for me. But if I was younger I would go for it. Keep me posted on how things are going for you and good luck.

    hal380 and GWIZ2260 Thank this.
