    Anyone who would run without an APU and shut the truck off to sleep in Houston or West of there to CA is a fool. Make sure they have APU and it heats in the winter. You don't need an inverter because they already put out 120 V.

    roehl. Lots of options with Roehl, they also have company training if you need it. Fair treatment, values safety, shorter time in the trainer truck. Great place to work and start in this business. Has reefer and dry van, sounds like you don't want flat bed. Nice big terminal in Gary.

    i had one when i first started but now have epu. I'm never to hot and never to cold, frankly i get my ten hour break and i'm rolling again. Odds are you would not get an APU, instead most likely epu, with bunk heater for winter.

    frankly if you get newer well maintained equipment, having an apu to start should not be a deal breaker. Learning how to drive and manage freight would be of bigger concern to me. If you get with a company where you are sitting long enough to worry about using an apu and inverter you most likely won't be running a lot of miles.

    What is a EPU and how does it work.

    I am 60 and have worked in the cold and the heat and now if I am going to spend time in my truck I expect to be comfortable.
    I will do my 10 and be ready to roll again refreshed.

    10 hours is already sitting long enough for me to want an APU . ;)

    Do the bunk heaters work good ?

    Maybe check with Garner trans out of Ohio, not sure about Apu's though Dennis but they take students and no touch freight.

    If you're 60 and want to roll light may i suggest running hard for a little bit to get trained, if you like after a few months go out and buy yourself a truck and lease on to a company, Roehl, Schneider, etc.... then you can get exactly what you want and roll part time. At 60 you should be in a position to control your own finances. A lot of new company drivers think they can get a company truck and just sort of ease on down the road...problem is that the company has a big chunk of change invested in that nice truck and needs to get a return on investment.

    The epu thing is just batteries instead of an onboard diesel generator (APU). On a rare occasion i will sit a big longer than my ten and may need to idle a bit to recharge. My bunk heater has worked flawlessly even in zero degrees. When it gets that cold I tend to idle some every few hours to make sure i don't gel up, thats with treated fuel.

    when you run your own truck you buy your own fuel and maintain your own truck so the company does not have that money invested in the equipment. If you own your own truck you can run and lean or as fat as you want to afford.
