I have seen a lot of posting from drivers will little experience or lots of experience that is not recent,,

If you can get a job with a big carrier OTR you will be treated as a dummy or they will run you to death and nit pick everything you do,,

There are many small companies that run local or short runs where you can get some miles under your belt.

I suggest you try intermodal. Some pay OK and many you will be home daily which helps keep you expenses down,,With intermodal or containers you don't get fired or a bad DAC report if you ding a container,,you will get daily experience backing into loading docks and dealing with local traffic,,Remember any one including Obama can hold on to a steering wheel running down a highway. Local is more challenging and your skills will get better doing local and it is hard to hurt a container,,

I have a friend in LA who who does containers,, pay his driver $20/hr including sometimes waiting at the port for hours,,an other in Kansas City does intermodal pays his drivers $1000/wk salary,,both seldom run week ends, both 99% home every night

And since that doesn't qualify as OTR experience in2 years you will still be treated as a rookie anywhere you go. Find a company that's willing to hire you that gets closest to your goals, pay your dues and move on. You don't have to start at a mega carrier, they're just the easiest to find.
