As I mentioned in the beginning , will start with truckstop, DAT and getloaded and will see which one works best for me .
Yep , once you hook up with a load , pick it up , deliver it, prepare an invoice that indicate your carrier name, date of service, origin-destination, rate....etc with attached ( conf. rate, signed BOL from shipper/receiver - make the receiver write down their name when delivered/POD ) to the invoice . Send it to the broker, make sure they've received everything and just track your payment .
Of course, you sign a broker/carrier contract, sign conf. rate if you satisfied (as newbies as carriers , we need to read everything and ask to get paid for truck order not used , lumper fees, detentions... ), you have to have your documentation ready on a file to be sent when agree on a load ( MC,insurance, W-9, not sure about workers comp.?? ) .It would be good idea to make a list with the brokers you have contract with already and next time you call em for a load, no need to sign that contract . get your conf. rate, info and get going . And of course always ask , what time picks ,delivers , weighs , appts required ? , call shippers/receivers ..... I guess you should know all that if you been 10 years in the trucking. Find a simple software to work with, creating invoices , inputting all your trips, fuel , track payments, have a list with brokers you have established relation, that I was talking about, which I have no idea what I'm going to use yet... any suggestions someone ?
And if you still have questions , keep reading , searching and ask just like I did .
This forum looks to be pretty helpful and friendly so far .

IF you set yourself up with Landstar as an independent carrier, you can use Transflo to send documents and they pay within 48 hours.
For a printer I use a brother pocket jet 6. The same printer DOT use in their vehicles. It uses thermal paper not ink. You do need to buy special paper to use. New one was $300.00 I bought 2 used ones from local PD for $75.00 each. I have my 5 year old printer/scanner that I use to put paperwork into digital.
I use email as much as possible. Most brokers will email or fax. I have only send or received 3 pages in the last year. I have a free fax to email program. AS long as I don't go over 10 pages a month.
This year I switched back to Quicken Home and Business for my accounting. Its simple and easy once you get the files named to your liking.

    probiker6366 Thanks this.

You can hand write an invoice, use a word processor template, etc. I use the built-in invoicing of Quicken home & business

If the document is 1 or 2 pages, hold the phone upright and zoom out until the entire document fits on the screen.

Pull out the stylus and select "screen write." You'll hear a shutter sound as the phone takes a screen shot and converts the document into an image.

You can then zoom in to the areas you need to sign. When done, tap the checkmark to save, and you can then email as an attachment. That's how it is on my note 3 -- should be close if not the same for your note 4...

For longer documents like carrier packets, use a laptop with a pdf reader like adobe acrobat. You can click the "fill and sign" tab and navigate from there..

If you have no employees, I recommend Quicken Home & Business. Takes some (a lot of) work to learn the program, but it is pretty powerful and it'll do invoices & receiveable reports like overdue etc.

I would stongly recommend getting a cheap laptop from Walmart for doing the more complicated paperwork -- it'll save you time, & therefore money, in tbe long run.

But yes, you could take a screenshot of each individual page, screen-write your initials or signature, and then save them as page 1, page 2, page 3, etc. It would take forever on a 30 page document, but it is possible.

I believe quickbooks has a mobile app that will do invoicing. I know quicken home and business' app does not allow invoicing -- you have to do it from a desktop.

As for the BOL, just take a picture of it and crop it to size. Everyone but Landstar seems to accept it...

That's good, though most brokers will want a named certificate of insurance from your insurance company anyway.
