i drive for a company in texas and have for 2 years, i wish to transferr my license to texas, but i dont have a legal residence...anywhere, as i have been staying in my truck and cant justify paying 700 bucks a month on a place i visit 8 days a year
i was wondering if it was legal to use the address of a storage building as the address on my CDL, or any suggestions as to a way to transfer my lic. to the state my employer is in
thanks

You don't have a trusted friend or family member that would allow you to use their address? How about using your work address?
GAPrincess Thanks this. -
Most often drivers in your situation would rent a P.O. Box, or equivalent from the post office or UPS Store, if they don't use a friend or family member's home as their mail drop.
One thing to keep in mind is that if you have no home you can't legally take the IRS meal & incidental deduction since you are never away from your home. The P.O. box may be risky since it's clear you aren't living in the Post Office parking lot.jlkklj777 and The Challenger Thank this. -
Why don't you do what full time RVers do. Sign up with a mail forwarding business. You use their physical address as your own. There's one located in Livingston, TX. You may have to join the Escapees RV club to use it. I'm sure there are others though. Do a search on line.

Only out of the truck 8 days a year??????????????????????????????????????
Good lord driver, thats no life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GAPrincess Thanks this. -
i understand the statement, but i have seen more, and done more in the last 2 years then with the 28 before that.
that both be seen as an example of how much i enjoy trucking, and how sad my life is/was
regarding PO box...i was under the impression that CDL holders couldnt use a PO box for their lic. something to do with homeland security or something??? -
Use your home terminal as your home address, in conjunction with a PO Box. Discuss it with your terminal manager to make sure it is ok. You would sure think a guy putting as many miles as you are would have no trouble getting permission to do so...

They certainly won't mail your license to a post office box. I don't know if you can use it on your license or not.
But to reiterate what another posted on here, how about using your employers address as a mailing address. Check with them first, though.
I know of one instance where a driver bought an old travel trailer, and parked it on his company's property, with their permission. He was able to qualify for the per diem as this was actually his residence on the rare occasions he was not on the road.
I think it would be a rare company that would allow this, but it sure doesn't hurt to ask.Last edited: Apr 14, 2009
