You know what job I would like to have? System floater if that job existed just go to different yards and warehouses around the company and help out doing what ever weather it be filling in or training guys or doing volume truck runs or running night transit just being a system wide utility man that's the job I want. Actually if I was an ATM at a big warehouse like Plant City where they have lots of trucks and trailers and men and machines and can spare people it wouldn't be outside the realm of possibilities I don't like being cooped up in my same route everyday box.
I've thought about applying for ATM if it came up just to use it as a stepping stone to get into another job. I'd like to get into fleet or road operations, but trying to still claw my way up from driver. Transits not bad volume truck market place store is better, eventually may have to relocate depending on what happens.
I'm not tied to anything so I can move and do what I want easily. The guys from the other brances the two ATM's I ate dinner with asked me about my personal situation and I said "I run the 6th largest route in Cleveland and I'm not married have no kids and live at home with my parents."
They said "Oh so you just bank money." Both of those guys have backgrounds in education and school teaching. I said "You know I worked in the restaurant business a little and when I was in high school decided I was going to work for a food company weather in transport or sales and my dad used to be an owner operator and a line haul driver for RPS so trucks and food like this isn't new to me." My mom's done a lot of work in the hospitality industry and has friends that work for Sysco Cleveland so me and this business isn't totally foreign.
All this stuffs been on my radar for a long time.

I found heavy equiptment to be a joy and not work. I thought trucking was kewl and all and it was. But when they stuck me into a CAT 936 to feed a ready mix plant with sand and stone it clicked. They noticed I was devouring the manual for that thing a month prior. It was 2 inches thick.
I don't have much ambition because I keep trying to run a company and take over the world. Fortunately for me people don't listen. So when the hours go by and it's time to fuel, grease and put the kitty away for the night I look forward to the next day to get back into it. Even after a summertime of 110 degree weather.
There is one thing I did not like, trying to load a pickup truck. Take a corner of the bucket scoop 200 pounds of stone which is sort of like trying to use a shovel to clean kitty litter box at home without splashing. Then aim it at a pickup you can see most of but kind of dallop into the bed that has blankets on it to keep from scratching. I guess I had too much thought being nice to take the risk of hurting a truck with that thing, I owned one too.
Anyhow. It was fun and I have considered that I could get back onto them things once I get the medical side settled down sooner or later. You don't need anything like the certs and licenses that you do for CDL. Just hop in and have at it. -
Alright back here in Aberdeen, have one more set of routes to go and then I'm heading back to "The Buckeye" Friday night. Everything went very smooth in Pennsylvania and my services were not needed. Which was good because I was a little anxious about what was going to happen, seeing that it was 10pm-11pm at night and I could have been on some scary New York City 3 day chain route, those are scary. Anyhow dodged the bullet on that one, one more day of helping or whatever and then I'm headed home! Did a lot of pinballing and stand up sit down, but learned a great great deal.
Bob Dobalina, Sho Nuff and x1Heavy Thank this. -
Alright so this is it last night in Hollywood, I'm going to bed, I have to be up at 4:00am for work and it's been a big 2 days. Anyhow I've enjoyed my time here on the east coast, tonight I went to dinner at Royal Farms. Which is very similar to our Get Go back in Ohio and Western, PA. All you guys from Ohio and Pittsburg Double R, Pintelhook, Tomcat and Mr.Dobolina you all know what I'm talking about.
Anyhow I must say GFS put is in very very very nice places all Hilton places expensive places none of the type of places you see USF Holland park there trucks at my room here at the hotel right now is very very nice and they set me up I felt really well for a trip like this. Glad to have gone and been out here in the land of Sho Nuff, dumdriver and Mack-E6 thank you for having me everyone was very very nice.
In a way I was glad I didn't have to go out last night, I was getting kind of anxious and a little nervious about having to do an emergency chain route to the Brox, New York or something.
Anyhow everything is all cool now and I'll be headed home tomorrow happy to be headed home, back to The Buckeye. -
Right get yourself a bucket of crabs by hook or by crook. You are not allowed to leave the Bay area without a bucket of steamed crabs seasoned with Old Bay and backed with a number of other treats that are not found anywhere else (To a certain degree..)
Good luck. Fair wind on the rolling main. -
I think you would have enjoyed the NYC tour by truck...although it might have been the same way some enjoy a roller coaster, screaming and/or puking their brains out after getting off!
Didn't make it over Aberdeen way this week, sitting outside Harrisburg PA in my hotel now, after kicking 2 stops off in Baltimore (Patapsco Road/Caton Ave SUCK!) and grabbing a backhaul in Hershey. Oh well, coffee's still on me if you head out this way again and I'm in the area. Have a safe trip back to the Buckeye! -
In my mind, you've earned your NE cred. Don't see too many people put in the extra effort or willingness to do what you did.
MUCH RESPECT!!!!!
Have a safe trip back to the Buck Eye and come on back anytime.Bob Dobalina, x1Heavy and Mike2633 Thank this. -
x1Heavy Thanks this.

NYC has, for a lack of a better word evolved. In my time the men and boys were on this side of the street and the women and girls were on that side of the street for obvious reasons and no truck were safe against parasites who jump onto my catwalk to strand me for future abuse and crime
Fast forward 20 years. NYC has become a place where people were actually NICE to myself and spouse. Im the one who is damaged goods expecting the worst from people and am confused and aww shucks happy and shy when people are nice for once in that city.
It would be easier to emigrate to Syria and live near the enemies of America, at least there will be no confusing at all just which of these people.Mike2633, MACK E-6 and Pintlehook Thank this. -
