I Moved to southern IL and got an IL CDL but all of the jobs I m applying for are across the river in KY. They are local jobs. Will they consider me? I saw one job ad which was for a company in Illinois that stated must have valid Illinois cdl. Is that a rare thing to require that you have a cdl in the same state as your job? Obviously every single otr company deals without that.... I just don't want to move to ky and get my license transferred just to get the job.... I'm about 20 mins into Illinois and I like it right here...

    Thanks

You cannot hold a CDL in a state other than where you reside....unless the state where you reside does not issue CDL's. If you live in Illinois, you would have an Illinois CDL. You can apply for jobs in Kentucky or any other state and you would keep your Illinois CDL as long as you reside in Illinois.

The only tricky part is when it comes to taxes. If they are a local company, they are going to withhold Kentucky income taxes...not Illinois. So, you'll have to fill out Kentucky's income tax forms AS WELL AS the Illinois tax forms. Illinois will give you credits toward what you paid in Kentucky. If Kentucky wants more than Illinois would have taken, you will pay Kentucky what they wanted and Illinois won't refund anything because you haven't paid Illinois anything. If Illinois would have taken more than Kentucky wanted, you'll have to cut a check to Illinois for the difference.
