Has anyone ever done this? Ive been flirting with the idea of moving to Alaska. I have about 5 years of driving experience, but the majority of it is local within Florida. On top of that my whole life Ive lived in Florida so I have minimal snow/ice driving experience. If I attempted to move to Alaska (its all a day dream at this stage), I feel like It would be much safer to drive the lower 48 and canada for a few years before looking for a job in Alaska. Im curious if lower 48 companies would make any kind of special arrangements to let me fly in to work and fly back for home time.
Anyone ever heard of this? Probably not ....![]()
Living in Alaska, but driving the lower 48?

Schneider has a "Jet-Set" option in Alaska and maybe in Washington. Talk to a recruiter about it.
One driver in Miami signed up for the "Jet-Set" with Schneider. Check Schneider jobs website.
Schneider had an ad not too long ago for a "Jet-Set" position in Alaska.
www.Lynden.com hires in Alaska and Washington and Texas.

A guy on YouTube was doing this. JerryPerry. He drove the 48 states and when he would go home he would park at his companies terminal in Seattle area and fly home to Alaska. Good luck.

I've seen the ads for Lynden. I think currently I've seen one for a local driver and one for line haul. Not sure what exactly line haul means in Alaska, haha. They are definitely on my list. I'm also going to try and e-mail a couple Alaska intrastate companies that I've found. I think it would be a long shot since I only have driven through 2 winters in the lower 48 and both were mild ... never even had to put chains on even when going over passes. But again this is all a pipe dream right now.
Another option I could take is to use a family member's address here in Florida to get hired on with a lower 48 company and just take a flight back and forth to Alaska on my own dime. If that was the case though I would need to find a carrier that wouldn't be shy about letting me accumulate like a full 7-8 day home time. Plus that would be a lot of hard earned money being disposed of with plane tickets and rent that I would only be at once every couple months. I don't know man, I don't know -

Yeah he used to work at Swift as a lease operator. But they kept tacking on extra fees to pay the truck off so he finally left to join Carlisle the company from Ice Road Truckers.
Lepton1, Trucker61016 and Woodys Thank this. -

When I lived in Alaska I knew of guys working down in Seattle area that were drivers. They would fly home to Alaska to take their breaks. Quite a few folks did. But, the pay was much better then.

Met a young man, late 20s, owner operator in BaltimoreMD. He worked for a company out of Minnesota, but his residence was in Alaska. He would work and drive in the lower 48, but go home every 6 weeks to Alaska.
