Great to see some positive attitudes!
Mostly we see the unhappy side posted here.
Its a great career, one that has treated me well over the years.
It is what it is, a driving job, not a sitting somewhere job.
Trucks don't make money when parked.
Make the most of time off and see the sights, or shine the truck
Great way to make a living, IF your attitude is right, and it seems like many of you here have that part down.
Makes an old man happy to know there are a few out there to keep the wheels rolling!
Go get em guys!I-80Trucker, NDBADLANDS, slomocopshow and 1 other person Thank this. -

RSconsulting, you have some experience already so you know what you are getting into. You also already have an outlet for loads and back-up income. Shouldn't be to big of a risk then. Hey if you're not happy doing what you are doing now then it isn't worth continuing. You have driven before and know what you are getting into, and already know its something you will enjoy doing. Sounds like a decent plan to me! Wish you luck man! Keep us updated!
I-80trucker, don't sweat the school and training! It's actually a blast and you will have a lot of fun! Wish I were in your shoes. I have some good memories of school and starting out. It will go by so fast you will wish you had more time with your trainer because when you first go at it alone it will be a bit nerve racking!
Good luck!

My 21 year old has been living with me for the last 18 months - and his girlfriend who was "just visiting a few days at a time", for the last 9 - they move out TOMORROW (THANK YOU GOD!!!!).
You get to a point in life, where it's no longer about "money or stuff", but about smiling more than frowning. Don't get me wrong, "stuff" is nice. I went through my BMW phase, my Suburban phase, my Corvette phase - all manner of Harleys (ride a tricked out V-Rod now). Like what the heck do I need a 9' pool table that I never play on, a pool I never swim in, etc., etc. If I worked 20 hours a week (at my current billable rate) that's $150K a year - and 15 hours a week more than I can stand.
George Carlin said: A house is a place to keep your crap, get more crap, get a bigger house.
Still - running away to join the "trucking circus (and it's all 3 rings and then some out there), isn't the goal here. It's better to be running TOWARD SOMETHING, than RUNNIN AWAY FROM something.
I'm running TOWARDS my sanity. Keeping earning expectations realistic is important. Minimizing road and home expenses (certainly accomplished by NOT HAVING a home) can be a freeing experience.

I like to be moving, constantly. I get tired of a place after a few days. No family, nothing... Like to live in the truck. It's not as comfortable as a house, no real kitchen or bathroom, but I cook in here every day and I even wash myself in here (if it's necessary). I hitchhiked with truck drivers in Brasil in the 80's and it was one of the best times in my life! Have been trucking in the US for a little over 4 yrs now and this IS how I want to live my life. This is ME! It feels as if I had started last year. Time flies! I wake up every day eager to start my driving, even if I feel tired... I don't make too much money (my company is not one of the best) but I don't care right now. I don't even check my payroll till I take time off once every 2 to 3 months and go to the bank.
I just know that I am doing well and loving this way of life!!
