lo pro 24.5 vs. tall 24.5 ?

    What is the weight difference between 24.5 low pro and 24.5 tall rubber?

    google the tire companies and there should be specs to give you sizes, demensions, and weights

    one I use for cpm calculations is the firestone FD690 PLUS
    which shows about a 6 ounce difference.

    24.5 low pro is the same as a 22.5 tall just on a 24.5 rim and 24.5 are olmost 2in taller then 22.5 or 24.5 low pro

    A company im looking at get paid by tonageand the owner said there is 500 lbs diff between 24.5 tall and 24.5 lowpros on the drivers 8tires i kinda thought that way high

    But then i almost drop 150 rpm going tall at the same speed so it becomes the ? Is there a fuel savings with tall rubber or a higher income with LPS and a extra 500lbs cargo

    Low pros have lower rolling resistance, but that varies with the construction of the tire; slower rpms at a given speed just means it takes more torque to keep the wheels turning, it probably won't save fuel except really light and bobtail.

    The wide base singles are supposed to have less rolling resistance than the same outside diameter in duals and they save more weight

    I don't think you save much weight going to low pros, but you do lower things a bit including overall height, they should take a little less fuel to do the same job.

    He may be calculating the weight of the rims from 22.5 to 24 and steel VS aluminum. I never thought of it but I will research wheel weights.

    However your RPM change between 24 tall and 24 LP can only be about 82 rpm by mathmatical calculations and tire weight is only 6 ounces x10 = 60 ounces or 3.75 lbs.

    As to your question I would have to assume that an extra 500 lbs cargo will have a higher pay-out than LP vs Tall since the driver, weather, etc.. will have more effect on MPG's than 82rpm's.


    Further research has revealed Aluminum 22.5 is 56lbs or 560lbs total on the truck, 84lbs for 24.5 steel or 840lbs for the truck giving a difference of 280lbs.

    Back to the original post, both sizes mentioned use 24.5 rims, same weight there.

    If they are the same load range, the weight of the tires would be close.

    I agree,, there is only about 6 ounces of difference in the LP vs the Tall. Not nearly the 500lbs his boss claims.

    the way to shave weight is supper single tires on just the drives you can cut olmost #900
