IS it true that if you are a new driver in the trucking business and you get your own insurance ( instead of been insured under the broker) that shippers do not usually hire you? or the loads are not well paid as they would be for an experience driver?

It depends on what you are hauling. I know in car hauling its very hard to get loads from dealerships or brokers if you are new because they think you are prone to damages. I had prior car hauling experience before i got my authority but i was still turned down on some loads. Some brokers dont care because they are so desperate to have the cars moved they just cross their fingers and hope for the best. There are car broker companies or dealerships that will not assign you a load until you have over 100 positive ratings. It just depends on how desperate they are.

Let me see if I make sense. Maybe I'm not using the right terms. I have a guy that gives us loads ( he is the dispatcher), to this guy we pay him 17% of every load ( for the load and trailer), I then also pay him insurance becasue I'm under his insurance. He told me that if I wanted to get my own insurance that was fine too, but that there wouldn't be many " shippers" not sure if he meant brokers who would want to give me the job becasue I'm new in the driving industry.

Yes, I'm using his DOT and company name on my truck.

yeah, he said that I can get my own insurance, but I will also have to get all my permits and MC #, so on and so forth under my name and since I will be new to shippers/brokers that I would not be able to make as much money so it was better to stay with him. Just trying to figure out if this is accurate or not?
