How can you check what the rates are on loads without having to sign up with all these load boards or use a broker.

Example guy I am going to work for said if I take a load, flatbed, somewhere without a load back I can find a load call him and he'll take care of setting up and I can run it. But how can I find out how much the load pays without signing up on boards...I HATE SIGNING UP ON THINGS TO FIND BASIC INFORMATION...

Load boards aren't free, so you'll have to pay as well. To top it off when you get access to the load boards, you'll find very, very few loads have a listed rates. Most just say "call".

    How hard can this be?

Loads from the ports are in "Cans" unless otherwise stated...Then they're "Cross-Dock" usually vehicles.....Plates or coils.....Pipe

Loads from the NW are usually lumber....If they're straight from a mill....As in boards or beams...They're usually tarped and cheap....Manufactured beams pay more....

    Point is....Know your lanes.....

And your brokers. After a while you figure out who's lying about the pick/drop locations and how many stops they've stuffed in the route, before you even call.

Days like today, the load boards are fancy phone books.

I know my lanes, that's why it pisses me off when they can't put a simple one word description of the load. Bottom line I haul coils, period. I want a load out of say Detroit for a flat, 30 loads listed going back to Ohio. How many are steel and how many are lumber? Same with Butler IN, it's either steel or mulch. Franklin Ohio.....Shingles or steel? How hard is it to put "wood" in the listing? Until this summer when I got tired of screwing with it I had a brokers license and a "broker" account with ITS.com. It take about :02 seconds to type "steel" or "pallets" in the listing. It will cut down on your phone calls tremendously. I'm not going to haul lumber at any rate so if you put lumber in the listing I'm not going to waste my time or yours, it's so simple.:biggrin_25526:

Possibly because there's a lot of double and triple brokering going on......

Possibly? Heh, how about definitely. That $3.00 a mile the shipper or receiver is paying to move the load is probably paying a whole $1.60 by the time it actually gets offered to a trucker. Thats what load boards are for. Screwing everybody except the middle man...
