I have scoured the load board threads and there is tons of useful, if conflicting, information. Checked get loaded on the free trial.

The major players in my area are:

    TQL
    C H Robinson
    RTS
    UTI Transport
    Rowe

Can I get some info on these companies? Rates, payment history, etc.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Pretty cheap rates from the first two. Once in a while you will find a decent broker who doesn't low ball you.

I'm assuming you have your own authority? Check Internet truck stop, one of the better ones. There's also the better option of cold calling shippers directly and asking if they have any freight to move you can help with.

I hear UTI first quarter DECLINE of 30%.............

See what happens when you fool around with the rates like they do.......We carriers can drink from the same fountain too

This should be a GREAT year for carriers...........The brokers are having a real tough time booking trucks

guy on another thread bashing the hauling cheap freight when he doesn't even know the whole story. I'm set to haul under my MC for local work. Never leave 75 mile radius with a dedicated run. My insurance is horrible and allows me to make $600 a week. I will improve and I know it. Just takes time. I am looking at this as a plan B. Trying to protect myself better with this adventure.

kw600, my question is: Can I run a few load from the load board to get an idea of who is shipping what to where and undercut the broker? How does this usually play out?

I don't think I've ever called on a UTI load that they didn't offer around $1/mi. Absurdly cheap, and every load was always 45k or more.

No thanks. They can go under for all I care.

The only way to know what the broker is actually grossing on the load is to ask to see the paperwork. There's a part on the fmcsa rules and regs that states this, forget it off the top of my head. When you call a shipper they will never tell you what it is being hauled for now. You have to tell them what you will haul it for, if they say no move on or see where you can save $ for your company ie, driving slower, not idling. OOIDA has some things that give discounts for being a member.

I am already an OOIDA member but I keep running into the insurance Issue. I hope F2F can help me out on this as an option. My local work pays hourly but computes to $1.65 a mile, give or take. Can a guy, who knows little of the commercial side of this industry, do better than this?
