Do you get load securement training in CDL school? Or did you get that training once you've been hired on to whatever company? I'm trying to go straight from CDL school to having my own authority and hauling flatbed...

You would get load securement/ flatbed training at a Flatbed carrier once you are out of school.
truckingbizness Thanks this. -
There would be too many types of securement to teach . It would add hours to the course and increase cost .
truckingbizness Thanks this. -
as above load securement is not taught in schools but at the company you work for flatbed/skateboards
vans dont need any training IMO not sure if many vans need securement
own authority just out of school? hope you really know what the entails and have a great knowledge of trucking that has been passed on. if not than i would highly suggest waiting till after you first year. to make sure it is what you want to do 100% it is a risky venture if you lack buisness sense. dont think well own authority makes more money so that is what im going to do cause the money looks good. -
You plan to go straight out of school, get your own authority, your own rig, your own freight. Sounds like a bold move. But do you think it would be wise to throw all of your eggs into a basket that you know nothing about? Should you at the very least test the basket out to see if it will even support the weight of the eggs?

Thanks for the answers everyone. Yeah, I'm not really too worried about getting my own authority straight out of CDL school. I have the capital to be able to buy a decent enough used truck and pay for getting my own authority, fuel and insurance. I have a degree in finance and I would consider myself extremely "street smart". I've also been doing a ton of research and can't see why I wouldn't be able to do this. I think I'll just start off with a reefer trailer and talk to truckers at truck stops and other places about flatbed load securement

You've done a ton of research.....except that load securement part. I'd be more concerned about load procurement. Good luck in your new endeavor.
