I agree with @D.Tibbitt 100%. There’s no shame in walking away from an obvious disaster. Assess the situation and if you can’t come to terms, walk away

Broker said me today they will be buying me new tarps and that supposedly customer lied about product description.
    So there's that.
Will they actually follow through and pay time will tell.

Gerdau in Petersburg requires a large percentage of their loads to be taped regardless of what the consignee requests.Tarps are like fishnets after one steel load.

I've more or less decided I am going to put my truck on the road in the Spring.

Original, plan was Mercer and lease to own one of their flatbeds , but their new camera policy and the fact flatbed freight is more specialized and not paying much more than van has brought me around to a new decision.

Landstar pulling a van . I'll pull, one of theirs while shopping for a good used one.

A lot less start up cost and no tarping. I trained in flatbed with a mega but went to hauling tanker instead.

Not much tanker work for O\O and Landstar is a reliable company to start with.

See how it goes for a year or 2 and if I still want to stay in trucking look at the stepdeck market and purchasing a trailer.

I'm getting older and lazier by the month these days.

There are are some Landstar O/O's on here that can give you very good info. Dave obviously runs for them and has some really good freight contacts built up. Might be worth talking to him.

Dave recommends Schneider .Yea i figured if Dave and his misfits can make money there , anyone could..

Hauled a van for 1 day in my career when I was desperate.

I felt really Dirty afterwords and didn't want to talk to anybody about it.

A Lot of Regrets for years afterwords

Looking Back I probably should have.

Seems odd to me that the steel poked through the carpet, I’ve never had that happen. I started using moving blankets 5 years ago, haven’t had anything go through those either and they’d be faster and easier to put on a load like that. I’ve been pulling a conestoga the last three years and still have my blankets to use for some odd stuff.

I dont understand why people go to Landstarve and give up 35% or 28% (last I checked) when bring your own trailer. That's a lot of money to give away.
    Many carriers paying 85-90%
Have seen some also pay 80%+ while providing trailer too.

I doubt their loads pay way better than everybody else to make it worth it.

On most general “load board freight”, I think it’s about a draw. I’ve done some LS brokered loads and delivered along with some LS O/Os and while their gross pay was higher, bottom line TTT was about the same. Specialized is a different story.
