Looking to get my own numbers started in a few months. I'd like to begin watching the boards and study some potential lanes for obvious reasons. Problem is, I don't have a DOT number yet but ITS and/or DAT both require one. Any tips/advice here? I'm currently leased on with a carrier. Could I just use that number?

I don't see the harm in it. It's not like you'll be booking a load with a broker. You just looking, right?

Indeed. No way I would do anything of the sort without his permission. My only goal here is to really start studying lanes and rates. Maybe make some calls or post the truck somewhere as well but never actually booking anything.

The Truckloads app allows you in without any numbers or payment

Yes, thanks. It's not very good though. You get what you pay for. However, I did try to sign up for it so I could call on a few posted loads but the app literally tried to force me to agree to tracking just to create a user ID...not cool.

I’ve been using it for a month to watch for local loads for the same reason you’re working on it. There’s other free ones like freightfinder.com or go straight to the broker websites.

So you want to have free access to something that others like me pay for? In addition, why would you need to be calling a shipper or broker about loads when you don't even have your active MC # yet? Just curious.

No, the free loadboards are nowhere near as good as the paid boards like ITS and/or DAT. Not sure why you would think I'm looking for free access to either of the paid boards as I've never said anything remotely close to that at all. I fully plan on paying for them but I can't because my numbers won't be active for several months as mentioned above. I call about loads for the pertinent details all the time on the free boards. Why do you think this isn't necessary? Stops, commodity, p/u and delivery zips etc etc are all important to me. This is pretty obvious. What's wrong with getting an idea of what's in my chosen freight lanes?

I guess when your MC is active you can sign up on DAT or any other pay to play boards then. Or maybe some nice owner operator here on the forum would be willing to give you their access & pw ;-)

I'll do a couple screenshots for you op. Tell me what equipment, what city/state from n to.

Why not; I pay $35 a month and literally never even look at the #### thing.
