Well driver you don’t drive the equipment that I’m driving. Some of these modern trucks have different systems and failsafes to prevent warranty claims and/or liability issues. Especially trucks equipped with automated manual transmissions. So don’t assume that your belief is correct-because we all know what happens when people assume in this line of work!;)

None of which invalidates what i said about how the air suspension works.

I didn't mention the suspension blocks some carriers like, because those prevent the up/down cycles that use all the air. But if you would like to discuss how they work to ensure the locks release as you drive away, we can do that to.

And since you brought up "assuming", maybe you might not want to assume that I'm not driving a new truck with an AMT because I'm am old guy. But it was a nice "Ok, boomer"-type of response in an attempt to deflect attention from the fact you don't have a freaking clue how your trailer's air systems work.

I'm not as prolific on here as I once was, but one thing I just can't leave lie is incorrect information. If I have the time, someone else isn't going to leave this thread thinking the forklift squeezed the air out of their suspension.

And you’re assuming (again) that I don’t know how the suspension equipment on the trailers that I pull works and you also assumed that I was giving you a “Ok Boomer” response. Far from it. I drive a truck with an AMT because I don’t have a choice-our company retired all of our manual transmission trucks years ago. I don’t have a choice in that matter or how equipment is spec’d out-that’s up to the higher eschelons.
But for arguments sake let’s just agree to disagree.

Well, I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with any of the above comments. I can say that, regardless of the cause, I know for sure I have pulled many different air ride trailers, and I have pulled more than a few that for some reason just took longer than others to air up.

And I also have met plenty of impatient day-cab drivers who would never bother to sit and wait for the air system to fully charge before putting the hammer down... just saying!

This will become a daily occurrence once mandatory side under ride protection is added .. right now skirts bend but once it’s solid to keep cars from going under trailers guys will be hung up everywhere.. train tracks driveways ramps etc etc ..

Haven't seen any reefers with this set up but some of the reefers I hauled for a company back in Oz had a lever that you could turn and either lower or raise the air bags on the back of the trailer if you were backing onto a dock that was lower or higher than the standard level.

This reminds of a story I heard once where this semi-trailer had been wedged under a low bridge with all these so called experts wondering how to fix the problem anyway this neighbourhood kid was riding around on a bike and is looking on, and just says "why don't they just let the air out of the tyres and drop the trailer" problem fixed by a 12 year old.

A white Volvo hauling currency for the Fed?!?

As if you needed one more reason to think the Fed should be audited.

I agree completely. I usually don't set the trailer brakes unless I'm docked.

The only time I set the trailer brakes is when I drop the trailer or the dock requires a lock on the glad hand.

Swift and few others tried running extremely high-cube trailers for a while, with tiny 19.5 tires. The tractors were actually drop frame setups, IIRC. They had a set of air-operated landing gear to get the tail up to dock height. Hadn't seen any in years, but I'm much more limited on where I go nowadays.
