I wanted to ask the question about an experienced driver getting a new MC number and a new DOT number and has 1,000,000 liability and 100,000 cargo insurance could they get turned away because of a new start date on a new LLC. Do brokers look at these dates and turn away new drivers with their own authority because they would deam them a risk because of these new credentials? I am looking at flat bed hauls using 123 or 360 load boards. Please advise. I have been hauling heavy equipment for years but not for hire. This will be new to me.Thanks!

You will occasionally come across a broker who requires you to be in business for 6 months, one or two will require 1 year and I had one require two years. Keep in mind this is somewhat negotiable if you happen to be the only flatbed in the area however if you are in an area with an abundance of trucks they will probably pass on using you. It sucks and who knows maybe there customer is the one who has that requirement...hope this helps.

they check your MC# to see how long you've been in business and you're DOT safety record,a low score or no score, can result in no load.

So, say a person was just getting their CDL and thinking that possibly a year or two down the road that they might decide to get their own truck.
Would it be a good idea (if possible) to get that MC# just after getting the CDL so that it has time to mature? -
no, they also look at the DOT safety rating,no or low score rating Will have the same results.having your own authority sound great you have freedom, but can be a uphill struggle, you need Good contacts and support system to be successful.

Thanks for the information.

Do you realize, a DOT number or MC# refers to having your own authority like a trucking company, not owning a truck.
You buy a truck, you should sign it onto a company and run under them for a few years before trying to having your own authority.
