@BearDown
This California guy is going through cdl school now--> YRC CDL training program experienceBearDown Thanks this. -
If you want to run the roads, which is OTR, then Swift Refrigerated has CDL training in Fontana or Salt Lake City.
You'll make a lot more money with YRC or FedEx though.

Man, these are sooooo helpful! YRC checks a lot of boxes *mainly* because they're out of South SF. I live on the peninsula. Since there is one company on the peninsula, there are probably others. I'm just having a difficult time finding them because my search method isn't great. Swift has a terminal in the Stockton area, that was the closest I had found before you guys told me about YRC, XPO, and FedEx.
How would I go about finding other companies with terminals on the peninsula? If I ever go home, I'll need somewhere to leave my truck. That's a big concern. Thanks! -
If you want money, benefits, lots of hometime, then YRC is the place to go.
OTR is for us that like to run the roads; we call it ''trashin' around"
~
You can try "Indeed" website and maybe enter the Zip Code for the peninsula, and see what shows. -
That's exactly what I'm doing but it's not so hot. YRC Freight in South SF didn't show up until I googled "YRC Freight terminals near me". I just tried "Trucking terminals near me" and found a lot, including Con-Way in San Mateo. I'll have to research them when I get a chance. But YRC sounds like a very good fit and not far away.Chinatown Thanks this.

FedEx Freight probably a good backup plan if YRC doesn't work out.
BearDown Thanks this. -
I've been talking to YRC. There are no advertised positions in my local yard (Las Vegas)
But when I mentioned line haul my options opened up. Recruiter is checking.
As a heads up..... Recruiter said they have changed the 1 year work requirement after training. It is not required, but no guarantee of a position in your home yard?
I need to get that explained. Almost sounds like you get trained but have to find your own work without cost for CDL.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Well, you'll have a cdl and school certificate, so if YRC doesn't place you, other companies will.
YRC will find something for you though. Reddaway or YRC terminal. -
Understood, I just can't get my head around training and not having contract requirement for reimbursement.
