Can one of you beverage guys dumb this down for me? I'm lost on how the beverage system works

I go into beer store, notice the born of date is about 30-120 days old. Not a picky beer drinker, Hop around between ( Iron City, Miller Lite, Bud lite, Budweiser, Coors and whatever peeks my interest ) Sometimes I buy it cold or warm.

Not sure how to word this question

Do you beer beverage folks have a set date to rotate inventory or when a beer store request getting out old product.
When I see beer truck parked outside, Can i assume that is the freshest beer from the beer company or is it still a month old sitting in a warehouse and don't believe a born on date ?!

Depends on the store for us. Some stores we just drop it and the store handles the rotation and stocking (I LOVE those stores. Lol). Other stores we feed it from the back of the cooler and it pretty much guarantees the oldest product is 1st. And then there's things like 12 packs and 2 liters that you have to physically rotate. It's easier to do it every time but sometimes you can skip a rotation.

With soda, it's important to always rotate the diet version of any product because those dates will always be the shortest. I would imagine beer has the same type of products that just naturally have shorter codes.

Does that answer your question? It's even crazier for the merchandisers that have to rotate pallets of stuff every day. Lol. Poor guys.

Every driving job out there means much more than just driving. I've done OTR and I've done local LTL. There are pros and cons of each. As far as the stress factor is concerned, they're on par with eachother.

If something is over 21 days old and does not sell where I work it is labeled as close dated by the sales rep and then we pick it up and take it back to the warehouse. It doesn't happen to often, but generally at least with Miller-Coors products it is 21 days or so. I do not know how long the stuff sits in the warehouse for, I do not think it's a crazy long time, but might be a month or so. Usually though over 21 days at the store is considered close dated and put in for return, however I highly doubt the sales people are looking at cans of beer and going "Oh that's close dated we better get rid of it." At the same time, store owners they don't necessarily want a refund they just want to sell the stuff. Heck some places will take close dated stuff. When I was training I was out in a college town and one of the stores the guy would buy close dated stuff off of the truck, he didn't care, he would say "I'll take it, these kids don't know or care." It wasn't expired just close dated, if figured I can sell it pretty quick and it will be consumed in a night no biggie.

I know it will be different with all brewers / distributors...but, did you get any kind of "product benefits" when you worked for your distributor? As in, discounted beer, free beer, etc...
