It's a real problem, I really can't see where if a guy has driven locally for years with a clean record a company would be out much to give him a shot at OTR either ?? I suspect the insurance companies have some goofball statistic on it or something. The truth is I think driving concrete truck is probably way more difficult than most OTR jobs, I mean we spend most of our times on interstates or places built for trucks. Concrete guys are in residential areas and places trucks have never been before everyday. The OTR companies treat local drivers like they just had a paper route or something, it's crazy !
EDIT : sorry I didn't answer your question. If you put where you're from maybe someone on here can recommend a company. Assuming your driving record is clean I would sure think someone would be able to bend the rules for a guy with a solid work history like yours. -
Crete carrier has a short traning period for inexperienced otr drivers. I was in the same position as you, went through a three week ride with a trainer then got my own truck. Paid 650 or 700 a week while with trainer then went to mileage pay after that. I think the reason they want the year experience is because local work is just that. Different states have different laws different weather, there is alot that can be learned before going otr that will save you alot of headaches.

Just tell them you have no problem going to nyc or chicago. You'll be in there with no problem.

Sorry, guess I forgot about where I'm at and my driving record. Am in sw Washington state, and my driving record is real good so far no violations. And yes concrete truck is lot of driving in very tight spots, and around here lots of steep gravel roads to back down, couple times for mile or so. Anyway economy went to #### and housing market dropped out of sight or I'd still be doen it.

I actually enjoy going to nyc! Multi stop loads out on the island are fun! Chicago not so much!

city driving does not bother me a bit, and I throw chains 3 days a week for last 3.5 years weather dont scare me much either, I respect the heck outta both. what does scare me is going otr and have to work for peanuts, if thats the case will probly just keep to Wa. Or. I started out with swift march of 03 and company`s like that scare the heck outta me too.
the trainer they stuck me with was an eye opener to say the least, then they put another rookie in with me he stunk, couldnt read a map, no drive at night and couldnt back up to save his life.. all that for I believe .26 cpm???? no thnx!!! -
Im not trying to sell you on crete or anything but there web says .41 cents per mile 1st year. I worked for them for three years and had a good experince. Time with theithen got trainer was allright and i finished with the trainer i got my own truck not a truck to share with a student. Anwayz

.41 cpm isn't too bad at all. Friend of mine is tryin to talk me into buyin truck and leasing out. Can't make up my mind. Not sure I want the head ache, not leaving my current employer for a year, when I'm vested. So I have plenty of time. I also have seen that my dog could be an issue with some companies, as they call him a viscous breed when the problem is with the owners not the breed. My wife is more viscous than my Pitt. Thnx for the advice
