I'd check with Dot Transportation. Some terminals have local/regional/OTR.
Might luck out; apply for local job there.

Thanks. I will look into this over the weekend.
I am in a career now where I am making over 50 a year and could make even more. I am not sure trucking is for me but I want to try it. I feel bored in my career everyday.
Is there any study guides for the Florida CDL permit?
Read the air brakes and combination and took some practice test but I would like to nail the test on the first try.Texas_hwy_287 Thanks this. -

Don’t worry about the tests. I went into DMV to get the study guide. Figured I was there. Why not get a look at the test. I walked out with my permit.
Whatever you do. Don’t drive for BillyBobs Alligator eatery. Their drivers disappear.jethro712, tscottme, Jingerjen and 1 other person Thank this. -
LTL is ABF freight, SAIA, Yellow, and all those companies that run daycabs and deliver locally. Basically a glorified UPS driver. I think it would be fun, although i've never really done it.
Texas_hwy_287 Thanks this. -
There are 2 sides to virtually every LTL company: Pick up and Delivery (P&D) and Linehaul.
P&D is local work, usually working daytime hours. They will leave their terminal every morning delivering freight and picking up freight to return to their terminal. This is done with a long trailer (48', 53', etc) or it's done with a "pup" (a short trailer, 28' or so)
Linehaul is usually a night time operation. You can have a set run, that you run every night, night after night. It can be out and back, where you leave your terminal every night and return before you hours are up. You can also run all across this country, sleeping in motels every day. Linehaul drivers normally pull doubles (2 short trailers).
The above are not absolutes, but are general descriptions of each side.Chinatown, OldeSkool and Texas_hwy_287 Thank this. -
Yeah the more I read I get a bit scared.
Lot of post about OTR.
I am going to call a few of these companies to see but a lot of local jobs want 1 year exp even if I obtain my own CDL.
Wish some of these food service companies had more options.Texas_hwy_287 Thanks this. -
One year experience isn't carved in stone. That requirement gives companies a chance to hire an excellent applicant right out of school or with less than one year experience.
Jingerjen Thanks this. -
Yeah guess once I finish the program I will apply
-
What is a good way to search all local jobs in my area or close by?
I don't even know all the names of the companies I have to look up an apply to....Texas_hwy_287 Thanks this.
