The reason i say potential is because its totally up to me, if i want to work 5 days a week or 6 days a week.
Talked to their driver, some of them like to being a floater which where i will be start out as if i chose that job, because floaters makes the most money there.

Unfortunately the dump truck job is not a union shop, does not offer any benefits. plus his truck doesnt have AC...

but $45 per hour 10-12 hours a day, thats very good money.

Yes it is good money. Money that can't be matched in food service.

I understand the dump truck job isn't union, I wasn't making that assumption. But with dump truck experience your chances of landing a good Union gig is better down the road.

If food service will hire you now, they likely will hire you later if you don't like dump truck, but dump truck is pretty easy work compared to food service.

The "potential" statement is just a big red flag to me. Lay down the price per an hour and maybe their would be something to be said for the job. Way too many employers like to throw a big "potential" number out their to attract prospects. Few reveal the details or the real chance of achieving that number.

I do not see how "floaters" make the most money anywhere? Floating usually means inconsistent routes and hours. The cream is always in the hands of the experienced.

nobody is paying $45 an hour to the employee for dump truck work.
even Davis Bacon only comes out to like $28 or so.

As i understand it this company's flaoter has the ability pick and chose which route they want do do today, which you can pick most pay routes and has the ability pick up extra routes, but the downside to that is unstable what time you will be done with your routes everyday.

The recruiter did not tell me how much I will be making, I did my own homework by talking to the guys on the routes, also internet reviews.

Well, contractors have agreement with government when they place the bid they have to pay minimum $45 on state certified projects.

That's why I say some jobs $20 some jobs 45

You take that dump gig and your a fool in my eyes. The ink on you cdl aint even dry. No ac? So driver comfort is not a priority. He wants to drive no ac thats on him. Pay based on job? Sometimes 20, sometimes 45? Sounds like a flece gig to me. I wouldn't go foodie either. But thats me. @TheyCallMeDave might have a opinion...

The cream is steady and easy. The floaters get the highest paying routes when the bid driver is on vaca. Whats that 5 weeks a year for top kid? Go ask in the food service threads, floaters make bank

    * TEAM0174-005 01/01/2017

    Rates Fringes

    Truck drivers:
    ZONE A:
    GROUP 2:...................$ 34.13 18.57

ZONE B (25-45 miles from center of listed cities*): Add $.70
per hour to Zone A rates.
ZONE C (over 45 miles from centr of listed cities*): Add
$1.00 per hour to Zone A rates.

Seattle starts at $34.13 with $18.57 in benefits that are passed on to the worker if not a permanent employee. That is $52.70 plus usually $1 more since most loads run outside the city.

@Mike2633 ... .wanna pitch in? I do neither. When I DID do dump-work, it didn't count for CDL-A experience and I had to start at ground zero, OTR, school, the works... back in 2000 ish... @street beater I agree with you

Same here. Exact same boat, no one at any Mega wanted to count my dump truck experience for anything.

And at the time, since construction toke a dump due to the economy, no one in any other type trucking job wanted to hire anything but an experienced driver of truck and trailer. But, unemployment was high at the time and employers had their pick of who they hire. It is not the same as now.

At the same time years down the road, I have had dump truck outfits tell me my experience driving dump don't count because I pulled 2 axle pup and tag and now every body has 4 axle. Like that makes a difference. If an employer has unlimited choices of drivers to hire, they can come up with some pretty stupid excuses not to hire someone.
